Prime/purge tower - X2D

Hi,

I have a question concerning the Prime/purge tower generated when multi color / multi nozzle are used.

Actually the slicer create a tower with the same number of layer that the object.
The usage if the tower is really important only when the filament is changed or the nozzle.

So why, the layer tower are not only printed when necessary, when the filament or the nozzle are changed ? It could work if the z-axis (and X, Y) is not in conflict with the object.

What do you think ?

ps: If I’m wrong, explain me the process, I’m interested to learn

Two reasons spring to mind:

  1. The prime tower has a variable, automatically generated volume and needs to be moveable on the build plate to enable adjustment to the objects being printed. So it can very well be placed at the front. If it was of lower height than the object, collisions would be guarantueed.

  2. Imagine a tall print and a little prime tower: As the bed is lifted to allow the nozzle to prime, the printed part would lift the glass lid pretty soon.

Nail on the head there. 100%

And a small addon: On layers without a filament change, the prime tower only uses a bare minimum of material, so not much waste is created there.

Hi,

Thank you at all.

I understand that the main issue is the potential collision issue.

And OK for the filament consumption.

Understand
