Print a few layers and keep getting same error over and over

  • Detailed description of the problem: m: Trying to print something I have before: a set of threads to make a screw-in plug for the bottom of an old bank. Printed a few threads (test piece) and found diameter of plug too small. Printed again and still needed adjustment. Printed again and got “The nozzle is plugged, or the build plate is not level.” After a cold pull, I tried again and got the same error. I tried to print. Same error report. Hit resume to see what it would do. It obviously lost orientation of coordinates b/c it tried to lay a nozzle purge onto the build plate in front of the waste chute. Did two more nozzle cold pulls (Both OK according to matching photo on printner screen) and ran the machine through all calibrations except the High-temp bed levelling since only am using PETG HF from Bambu Labs. Now I get, “The nozzle is covered with filament or the build plate is crooked.” So I removed the small bit of filament extending out of the bottom of the nozzle. I then hit resume. The print head obviously lost its coordinates again because it again tried to lay a nozzle purge onto the build plate in front of the waste chute. So once again I have about 4 layers laid down (small circle about the size of a half dollar - 30.1 mm) on the build plate and a waste purge at the back). A small purge tower also is on the plate.
  • Slicer settings used : Since printing worked before without any problems (as did several other prints), not worried about it.
  • Type of filament used: Bambu Labs PETG HF - been using this with no problems before.

  • Any potentially useful information that is related to the problem: Printer sits on top of a dresser that does wobble when printing,but since I have made several successful prints before, including this object’s test prints to modify and get a perfect fit, I suspect this is OK. Do I just need to restart the machine from scratch? What would have caused this in the first place since all nothing has changed after all the prints I made? I am pretty new to this with only around 12 prints done.

You dont mention your printer but I imagine its a P1 or P2

Have you made any modifications to the area the gantry moves in, or to any of the attached cables/chains/tubes to the toolhead? If it cannot home reliably [something in the way, or tugging on the toolhead] it might not resume well.

The print head obviously lost its coordinates again because it again tried to lay a nozzle purge onto the build plate in front of the waste chute.” but this sounds more like OOZING from wet filament while sitting than it does much else. Have you dried it yet? Would recommend, especially for PETG.

Arrgh…tried to be thorough and forgot the printer! Yes, a P2S. Here it is in one shot: Using Bambu Studio mac-v02.05.00.66-20260128215914 with PS2 Bambu labs printer using Bambu Labs PETG HF filament and AMS 2 Pro.

I just got done running the drying cycle two days ago. Humidity is at 17% in my AMS 2 Pro. I have changed nothing else. Come to think of it, I may have manually moved the print head some when I first printed a hanger that is used to hold the print head cover when getting at the nozzle. But that may have been before the last good print. And I sure don’t know enough yet to understand why it would no be printing the first 4 or so layers fine and then freaking out? That would have been the ONLY thing I did to the unti at all before the first cold pull I tried after it freaked out the first time. Then I just followed instructions and did nothing extar at all. Being cautious so as not to disturb anything.

The first few layers are where the bottom surfaces get printed, and the first $x layers generally have no cooling fan applied - defined in your filament profile. Perhaps those are relevant to your problem. I dont have the P2s so I will leave the details for others to maybe chime in on. IIRC the P2s has a clip-in toolfree nozzle, and the error is yelling at you about the nozzle alignment, have you changed anything recently there, maybe go back and re-clip it in?

I believe the nozzle is fine b/c I have removed it and put it back a couple of times following the instructions explicitly (also pretty mechanically inclined as well and was appreciating the engineering!). I am, as a I said, a total newb with 3D printing. Only started using it about a month ago when it came in the mail. Wishing I had been able to get one at a local store now in case it needs returning. As to the nozzle, it did not say alignment problem with that unless I am misunderstanding and “alignment” has to do with the two errors it gave me being the nozzle was plugged and then that the nozzle was covered with filament (and it was not) ? The alignment problem specifically was about the build plate.

Thank you again for trying to help me. I did another thorough inspection for any problems and found a tiny printed filament spool clip was somehow hiding underneath the back center of the hot plate. At least all of this taught me how to do a cold pull! I have no idea how that little part got back there because I did print out a number of them but that was at least a couple weeks ago. Evidently when I first removed the build plate one was loose enough to slide back and sit back there. I had printed extra so I did not think of one being missing. Evidently it has been back there without an issue but for some reason the other day it migrated into place where it was causing a problem. I am just thankful that I do not have a faulty machine!
