so i am coming from 13 years of using simplify 3d and trying to figure out how the sequential printing works in bambu studio. in bambu it will just tell me the object is too tall. in simplify i could specify that there was say 10mm clearance from the bed to the bottom of the print head. it would then print object by object but only 10mm at a time. i cant seem to find a setting in bambu where it will do that. unless i am missing something, by object mode it will only print the entire object and not print in vertical chunks…is that correct?
Correct.
Placement on the build plate and sequence of print are important.
Bambu has a good wiki page explaining these details. Use “Ctrl+E” to turn on/off the label which includes the print sequence
I dont know of any modern slicers from any of the current mfrs (nor orcaslicer) that will segment the by-object into many chunks that it leaves and comes back to. This mode makes it be printed all in one go, head to z=0, start again on next object. [As an aside - doesnt this create noticable z bands on that layer, where the prior layer has been sitting there for like… minutes?]
The thing does gantry/toolhead size calculations based off the inputs you give it / defaults in the Machine profile. In general you can make it do slightly higher objects by placing one on the top left and one on the bottom right, as it can clear XY gantry and only have to worry about glass.
ok thanks. as outdated as simplify 3d is, it did have a couple interesting options that seem to be missing in modern slicers. this option really just allowed you to load the bed with more parts instead of just a couple spread apart and worrying about x/y clearance. the only x/y clearance you needed to worry about was the hot end itself. not the whole extruder.
as for z banding…i never really had an issue with this although the only time i really use sequential printing is with soft tpu. it makes much cleaner parts without all the travel moves. with softer tpu you dont really notice any kind of banding.
