Print fails with 0.4 nozzle

My printer produces these results, it does not shut down on its own.

Printer: Bambu Lab X1C, firmware: 01.09.00.01, no modifications

After a total of about 380 hours of trouble-free operation, a print looked like this:

Manual termination after about 20 of 23 hours of printing time, but problems had obviously started a few hours earlier

Test with a different model (Uno Box) and a different filament to rule out problems with both the model and filament. The hot end is the same as above:

I then replaced the hot end with the 0.6 mm hardened steel, adjusted the same file, and printed it, and it printed cleanly (no photos).

I then purchased a new 0.4 mm hardened steel hot end, installed it, and tries to print the dragon again. After a few hours, it looked like this again:

I noticed that the problems don’t occur right away when printing, but only after a certain amount of time. The printer doesn’t stop printing on its own, but the print head just keeps moving without any filament coming out. During the last print, the nozzle was completely empty, but the print head kept moving anyway.

I can’t figure out what exactly the problem is, but I would like to be able to print again.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions as to what I can do?

From you error description, I would guess that the PLA silk is experiencing heat creep which in turn may lead to contamination of the extruder gears causing a subsequent clog.

Silk is slightly more difficult to print than normal PLA. Amongst other things, it is more prone and sensitive to moisture uptake (especially new filament can arrive moist), so I’d recommend drying.

Next, keep your chamber temp at around 35°. Maybe a bit lower since you already experienced heat creep (if you had those errors with a 35° chamber).

Before printing again though, you may want to do a couple of “hot hex wrench” cold pulls on nozzles showing signs of clogging
and inspect/clean the extruder gears (like extruder clog removal but just cleaning).

There are a few more thoughts, but well, it depends on the filament being dry really.

Keep the door slightly open and print something to your liking that enables air to move out of the top cover.

I am having the same exact issues. It started to happen today, I wonder if this is any firmware update related. I will update if I can manage the find the solution here. What have you tried so far?

So, once I have changed the nozzle, problem dissapered. I hope it helps.

Although nozzle didnt really seam to be clogged, I guess having PETG prints eventually left something in it. Guy who sold the machine to me suggested that I can use “ABS un-load” after I switch from PETG to PLA which has high temperature so it declogges any potentail PETG left in the nozzle.
