Print Failure at Layer 152 with Sparkly Galaxy Blue on X1 Carbon

I’m experiencing a reproducible issue with my X1 Carbon during a multi-color print using matte black, matte white, and sparkly galaxy blue (Eryone filament). In my previous post, I mentioned that the print consistently failed at layer 152 while transitioning to the sparkly galaxy blue, likely due to a filament retraction issue.

Updated Situation:

  • Intermittent Recovery: On the second attempt, after several tries and a printer restart, I managed to pull back the filament successfully. However, after that point, the printer stopped extruding filament altogether.
  • Print Interruption: I halted the print when I noticed the extrusion failure.
  • G-code Resumption Attempt: I’m now trying to resume the print starting from layer 152. I’ve identified the beginning of layer 1 and layer 152 in the G-code, but I’m uncertain about which parts of the code (especially commands before layer 1) must be retained or removed to ensure the printer resumes safely without colliding with already printed material or misbehaving.

Questions for the Community:

  • Has anyone successfully resumed a print from a specific layer by editing the G-code on the X1 Carbon?
  • What are the critical commands that should remain intact before the start of layer 1 to maintain printer home positions, temperature settings, and other necessary initializations?
  • Are there any recommended tools or guides for safely editing G-code for resuming prints?
  • Could this issue be linked to a firmware or slicing software glitch, and are there known workarounds for the filament retraction problem at the layer transition?

I wanted to share an update regarding the issue I was experiencing at layer 152 during my multi-color print. After further investigation, I discovered that the end of the filament was damaged. This damage prevented the filament from feeding properly through the extruder. When I attempted to remove the filament from the AMS, I felt noticeable resistance, which confirmed my suspicions.

Once I removed the damaged portion and reloaded a fresh filament, the print resumed normally. I’m still puzzled as to why the failure occurred at the exact same layer and during the same filament change on both prints, but it seems that the filament’s damaged end was the root cause.

I’ve attached an image below that clearly shows the small damage on the filament end, which was preventing it from being fully pulled through the extruder.
