Is this still the same problem from two weeks ago? What happened with it? It hasn’t been marked as solved yet. So what happened to all the advice users gave you?
Is this a new problem? That seems like the old one… or not?
Yes similar. I have been trying to isolate it to something, anything. This is a different model. If you want to combine them that’s fine if you have that ability. I tried all suggestions. I was hoping someone would have a direction. It doesn’t ruin the print, but that first layer always bothers me. Seems to only happens with the 0.2mm nozzle. I am going to swap nozzles and may print it again but this one is a 18 hour print. Yes, i did a cold pull on the 0.2mm so I think the nozzle is OK. , but I could buy another nozzle but it seems to flow just fine when I see it purging.
Update 08/13/2026: As I was going through events and models trying to isolate this issue, I remembered that I had a broken filament on this printer a couple weeks ago. I normally try to cut the filament loose when it gets to the end as I DO NOT like that the extruder has to rip the last of the filament off the tape on the core spool. Sometimes it is a pretty loud snap! This time it was a 25 hour print and I went to bed. When I got up, I loaded a new spool and received the error message that the extruder was jammed. When I researched, I found the most probable cause was a broken filament in the extruder.
Then I did something incredibly stupid. I pulled the broken filament out of the print head with needle nose pliers. After all my experiments with different models, and different nozzles, I isolated the issue to one printer, and that specific stupid event. Then I read on here that doing that stupid action with the pliers could damage the small hardened wheel and large orange gear as the teeth were small and thin and sharp. Luckily I had a spare extruder gear assembly in my spare parts bin.
I installed the new extruder gear assembly, performed a calibration, performed a flow calibration, lubricated the rails, and printed out the model that started it all. Perfect print. 1st layer smooth as glass.
I want to take a specific moment to thank a user here called RetroSharky. They were patient, stern when needed, and was very helpful in guiding me along my testing. Much appreciated!
So, don’t do stupid things and manhandle the printhead!
I will still try to cut the filament when spool gets low as the tape they use is a really good tape! The printer now has 1300 hours and is printing like a new printer!
