P1S. Technical print where i print 83A TPE (really smoochy) and need support interface material. I setup like so :
- PLA interface material, from AMS
- TPE on external spool holder.
Said TPE prints flawless usually. No material capability issue whatsoever.
I have 3 stops for support interface planned.
Slicer agrees, prints starts with loading TPE manually
At first material change printers asked i eject TPE just like expected, then loads PLA. No issue there.
By the end of interface printing, the printer does not stop, skips material change completely, and continues with PLA what is supposed to be TPE.
I suspect this is a firmware error/mistake at play. If printer must unload to ams and load from external spool, it get confuse, skips filament change and ruins the print.
Anyone had success with using multi-material both AMS + external spool before ?

You’re trying to switch back and forth between TPU and support material repeatedly, that isn’t possible on a stock P1S.
The reason is because there is nothing to push the TPU back to the extruder gear after the first time it was unloaded - that’s what an AMS is for, but you can’t push TPU with a stock AMS.
This is precisely what the X2D is meant to address - dual extruders, one for support, the other for print material.

Interesting hypothesis. Despite that the first unload from TPU to PLA worked. The printer UI called me for unloading TPU. I did manually. The issue seems to not be hardware related but only firmware choice (or oversight). Once AMS has engaged, it does not call me for unloading, just continues. The more i dig the more i’m convinced it should be considered a bug.

I had an interesting thought - the TPU assist module is basically an AMS, I wonder if it would be able to load and unload filament for material changes, as you’ve described.
So you’d need the module, and additional AMS of any type, and then feed both into the 4 into 1 adapter.
Someone needs to test this.
