My printer is telling me I need to update from firmware 01.07.02.00 to firmware 01.07.05.00. Problem is, I can’t find ANY release notes for that version! Should I go ahead a do it, and then update to the latest 01.08.02.00? It’s a little unnerving to update to a firmware version with NO release notes! Any chance of bricking my printer if I just do it?
I would put in a support ticket and ask Bambu how to proceed.
1.7.0.3 was the last 1.7 release that I heard of, and even that was replaced by 1.8 after just one month.
As someone who has bricked more products than I can count, here’s my universal answer: trust your instincts. You’re right to be cautious, especially given Bambu’s habit of treating its users as testers. Unless you’re trying to fix a specific defect or really need a new feature, the smart move is simple: don’t update. If it’s working well, don’t risk breaking it.
However, as an X1 user, you do have one advantage that P1 users have not been granted, that’s offline updates from an SD Card. I’d familiarize myself with that process if I were an X1 user as it will mitigate update issues that are cloud induced. This is a great fallback measure that in my view Bambu was criminal in not making available out of the box for all of their products. But you X1 users get it first.
Yes, a new printer is likely to need 2 updates in a row at the moment.
SD updating needs 01.08.02.00 so you have to do the first 2 OTA.
I opened a tech support ticket and received this response:
To update to version 01.08.02.00, you need to go through two updates. The firmware version 01.07.05.00 acts as a “springboard.” Although we do not have release notes available for this firmware, we recommend updating to this version and then proceeding to the latest firmware version.
