Hi, my A1 just snagged its hotend cable on the frame while homing, and pulled the strain relief plug out of the X axis motor housing (image below). I heard 5 loud thuds, like maybe a timing belt slipped or something. Then 5-10 seconds passed, during which it was just heating up, and then I cancelled the print. There was no error message. The firmware is 01.08.00.00.
I untangled it and resent the print job, and now it looks and sounds like it’s running normally.
(1) Is anything potentially damaged, or do I just need to push the strain relief plug back in?
(2) Was I supposed to do something to prevent this? How can I prevent a repeat?
For something that is marketed as maybe being in the “home appliance” category, this seems like a problem that a home appliance should not have. Open printers really should be for workshops; a “family machine” needs an enclosure for reasons like this and companion animals.
That being said, I often recommend the bambu a1 mini as good home printers due to their price and small size. So perhaps I am also guility of the same categorization error that bambu made!
I have my AMS Lite on the right hand side and I have the hotend cable clipped to one of the AMS PTFE’s, the whole lot hangs down a bit by it’s own weight and so never get’s over the top like in your picture.
There should be some documentation about it for sure.
But every Bambu video I’ve seen of the AMS on the machine shows the AMS on the right and the PTFE behind the hot end cable meaning it can’t fall into and snag on the edge.
Even with using the external spool holder as long as the PTFE is behind the wiring for the tool head it will keep it out of the way as well. This is with no clips etc. just the tube(s) being in the way.
The bracket to fit all 5 cables (4 PTFE tubes and the cable) are supposed to go all in the same direction, otherwise, why would Bambu ask to bundle them in one. Put the AMS lite on the right side of the printer and this won’t happen again.
This is my setup so that doesn’t happen, I’ve had the head power cable yanked out of the righthand end twice, then set up the supports shown in the photo, but still watch printer when printing a very tall object, because the power cable could still fall behind the top bar.
My printer setup sits on a hollow core door and the vibration has never been so bad that neither the printer nor AMS moves. Both have the original foot pads.
