Printing with PET filament

Hello, I am quite new to printing, the P2S AMS2 combo is my first printer.

I bought some Esun PET filament as it is said to have better properties than the common PETG. I have four spools of this.

When I try to set the filament type for the AMS, in the generic filaments list, there is no PET option. The closest option I can find is in the Bambu filaments list, there is PET-CF. However the printer refuses to use this from the AMS (its known to be brittle due to the CF).
If I fit the spool on the external holder, it appears to print ok with the PET-CF setting

Please can a setting for generic PET be added?
Or is there a way to adjust the temperatures and use the PETG setting?

I am mostly using the phone app at the moment - I did just get a new laptop and intend to use Studio once I have it all set up. Does that give more options for filament type?

You’ve got no chance of bambu adding support for other vendor filaments, they removed all other vendor filaments recently and have refused to support any filament apart from bambu.

I suggest you download esuns filament profiles and import them to Bambu studio, you can not use custom filaments on the printer nor the mobile app, you need the studio software to do it.

Hi! Using Bambu Studio on pc will give you alot more fine-tuning and advanced options for 3D printing and for setting up custom filament profiles! The Handy app is only good for monitoring your prints, and printing Makerworld downloaded models with pre-made settings or quick re-printing of earlier prints that are already dialed-in.

But you say you’re quite new to 3D printing: What kind of things are you planning to print?

Because PET is not a very common filament and not that easy to get printed correctly, especially as a beginner. PETg is much easier to print with. Also PET (non-CF) already is stiffer/more brittle that PETg so I would not use it with the AMS, but load it directly.
I’m sure that the P2S can print PET perfectly, but with the correct settings. I think that besides the advised bed-temp and nozzle temp, you will need to use the P2S in heating mode, getting to a steady chamber temp of 50deg, and a fan-speed not much over 50%. Good luck!

Start with the PETG profile and adjust the parameters to match the PET filament. That’s what I do for my fusion filaments HTPET+

They say they support it in the spec. If thats not true I may have to return the printer. PETG and PLA dont have the temperature resistance I require.

PET appears to print fine with the correct settings. Theres a good review video here, perhaps it is not pure PET.

It’s not hard to make your own filament profile.

Use external spool for pet filament - you avoid clogging nozel!!!
Use bambu pet- cf profile and change settings in this filament profile for:
Retraction speed change from 30 to 50
Initial layer print temp for 270
Other layer print temp for 260
Tick Z retraction
Bed temp for 80C on PEI TEXTURE surface.
Also im using bed spray glue! This is the best glue I ever use sience creality k1 with hear geil spray!

Im printing with PET without any issue when Im using external spool.
