Prints look like they have been chewed at the edges

Hey everyone,

I’m fairly new to the printing business - been printing since August last year, almost exclusively on Bambu Labs machines. I’ve mainly been running P1Ss and had virtually no issues with them, or issues I’ve not been able to sort out myself.

I recently bought three A1 combos, after loving how great an A1 was at printing mono colour.

For most of December these machines have run flawlessly… until around Christmas all three started playing up, all with similar issues.

I’ve had a ticket in with Bambu since it started, but they seem to have stepped away from the problem now after I asked to return one of the more troublesome machines.

The problem I am having?

My prints are starting to look like an animal has chewed them at the edges. Sometimes I just get a curl at the edges. And sometimes it looks like someone has just taken a cheese grater to the print as it got to about layer four.

I only seem to have the issue when printing Hueforge pictures. But I am stumped as to what is going on.

So far I have tried: Restoring factory settings; numerous re-calibrations; moved the machines to a slightly warmer area of the room; closed the door, left the door open; cleaned the beds with warm soapy water and a scouring sponge; cleaned the nozzles; changed the nozzles; changed the hotend heating assembly on one as it looked a little burned.

There’s probably other things I’ve also done but completely forgotten about now.

I am reluctant to use glue because I’ve never had the problems before on the Bambu plates.

I almost exclusively use Bambu Lab filament, I always check the bed type before slicing. I don’t tend to change any settings from the file posted by the artist.

This is a link to the 3mf file (which prints perfectly on all my P1S machines and did print perfectly until all these issues):

As a point of interest, this artist also prints on an A1.

Thank you so much if you made it this far down, and I really hope someone will be able to help and point me in the right direction!

Although you said you’d cleaned it, possibly it’s fringing around the edges where you’d hold the build plate. Those spots might be slightly dirtier than the rest of the plate just from carrying the plate out and it is losing adhesion. The front right is where you’d lift up the corner to take the plate out of the printer.

Other idea is the plate is a little colder around the edges, maybe bumping up the temperature a little might help.

Hi Jetpad,

Thank you so much for your reply.

The chewed edges can happen anywhere on the edge of the print to be honest. I thought printing with a brim might help alleviate this, but clearly it hasn’t. It bypassed the brim. But I definitely see where you are coming from. In future I will make sure to clean extra in the places you mentioned.

I am so used to printing with the P1S machines that I never gave it a thought about the plates being cooler round the edges. I will try increasing the temp a little.

Thank you so much for your help!
