but when I try to add even one more 1x1 box to the plate with the focus, and then do an auto-arrange, it kicks that box off the plate. I imagine the reason is that auto-arrange can’t know whether I’m going to use the left or right-hand nozzle, so it tries to pack everything in the middle, where the choice of left or right-hand nozzle won’t matter. However, in this particuloar case, I’m only using the right-hand nozzle to print these gridfinity boxes, so I want to pack more boxes on the right.
Actually, that may not be the reason, because even if it were trying to pack them all int he middle, it should have been able to find space for one more box in the middle. So, what gives?
I ended up packing them on manually, this time, but for the future, how can I get auto-arrange to work for this type of situation?
And, yes, I’m clicking auto-arrange on just the plate that has the focus. I’m not trying to do a global auto-arrange. Also, I set the spacing at 5mm, so that shouldn’t be the issue either.
Right. Why have an auto-arrange feature at all? Aside from convenience, my answer is: when it’s simple 1x1, I can do it, though not as quickly. However, if it’s a more complex packing, I’d rather let the computer do the tetris needed to fit it all in, and it should be able to do it far faster than me.
I hadn’t realized Orca Slicer was even an option for H2D. Is it? Or is Grok just hallucinating? Well, i had Grok double check, and apparently it is a thing now:
Reporting back: As it turns out, the H2D pull request hasn’t yet been merged into the official Orca Slicer build. Apparently you can run it anyway, but may or may not encounter bugs.
Anyhow, something to look forward to when it finally merges!
As for setting the spacing to 0.01mm. Isn’t that a wee bit tight? Seems like the slightest bit of curling might squish together printed objects that are supposed to remain distinct. Maybe could pass on a plate full of 1x1’s, but for bigger boxes, like on the OP post, there’s a chance of curling/warping.
Speaking of which, just what is considered a generally safe minimal spacing? 2mm? 1mm? Less?
