Problem: External access to the BambuLab X1C SD card via Wi-Fi

My humble request:

Direct access to the BambuLab X1C’s SD card from a personal computer (current Windows 11) for advanced administrative/analytical purposes.

What I’ve done so far:

  • Conducted relevant research on corresponding posts in the relevant BambuLab X1C forums.
  • The posts I found were a year old or older.
  • During my research, I discovered that the relevant posts and the presented successful solutions generally referred to a LAN connection to the BambuLab X1C on a home network.
  • All forum posts describing successful external access to the SD card are incomplete; for example, no information was provided about the BambuLab X1C’s firmware, leaving some things unclear to me.
  • Attempts to implement the presented solutions using the FTP software WIN SCP (version 6.5.5 (build 16453, November 19, 2025)) were unsuccessful for external access via Wi-Fi.

Attempts to implement the presented solutions using the FTP software FileZilla (version 3.69.3) were also unsuccessful for external access via Wi-Fi.

The following equipment and configuration are in place:

  • A BambuLab X1C (manufactured in 2024) with current firmware 01.11.02.000 (December 2025).
  • The BambuLab X1C is connected to the home network via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) with a static IP address through a router (Fritz!Box 7590 with current firmware 8.20).
  • 3D printing data preparation and BambuLab X1C control are always performed using the Bambu Studio software. the latest version (2.4.0.70).
  • The BambuLab X1C has been operating flawlessly on the home network and printing via the cloud server since the 3D printer was first put into operation (May 2024).
  • The SD card inserted in the BambuLab X1C has a capacity of 128 GB.

Note:

  • During the initial installation of the BambuLab X1C on the home network, an 8-digit access code (xxxxxxxx) was also generated and saved.
  • Using the methods and FTP software suggested in the forum posts, external access to the Bambu X1C’s SD card could not be established with the username “bblp” and the access code “xxxxxxxx”.

My questions for the forum are:
(1) Is it still possible to access the BambuLab X1C’s SD card externally via Wi-Fi on the home network with the current firmware (01.11.02.000)? SD card with a personal computer?
(2) If the answer is “YES” - what exactly does this external access look like (a detailed, comprehensible description)?
(3) If the answer is “NO” - what other alternatives are there?
(4) What might I have done wrong?

Are you sure the SD card is being mounted?

When you say externally do you mean external to the printer on the home network or externally to your home using the static IP address of your router?

If it is the former, try this in filezilla

IP address: IP address of your printer
user is: bblp
password is the access code of your printer like you said but double check that code, it rotates everytime you reset to factory settings

Use implicit FTP over TLS
Don’t fill the port number it’s OK without it but you can also try 990 as port number.

When you click OK or Connect, check the box at the bottom of the certificate in the pop-up window

As philch mentioned it’s either a firewall issue or ftp protocol issue. If you are trying access the X1C from a different network, you need to look for a networking guide to determine a setup that works for you. The X1C does not have any restrictions for access from a different network.

This is the configuration for Filezilla:


You need to fill in your X1C’s hostname or IP address. No further configuration is required. You should see a certificate warning when trying to connect but it can be ignored.

After that you can see all the files available on the microsd card.

Short (AI) answer:

  1. On the Printer:
  • Tap the Settings Hexagon icon on the touchscreen.
  • Go to the General tab.
  • Enable the LAN Only mode switch.
  • Record the Access Code that appears.
  • (Optional) You can also enable/disable the LAN mode liveview.

But there have been a few firmware changes that changed the menu a bit. You may need to first enable LAN-only mode before you can see and record the access code, but I think if you prefer cloud mode you should be able to disable LAN-only mode and still use that access code for FTP. I can’t verify this as I still use older firmware.

You just go to LAN only mode in the settings menu, you click it and in the sub-menu you see the access code that is your password. You then return to menu and don’t select LAN only mode of course :unamused:

It’s finally working, my week is saved! What I’ve learned confirms an old observation: the biggest problem with 3D printing isn’t the printer itself, but, as always, the user in front of the 3D printer!

Thanks for your input. The problem was an expired access code (password). The 128 GB SD card is working perfectly, currently with 71 GB used. If I get my hands on an SD card with even more capacity, I’ll test it and report back.
