Problem printing with 0.2 nozzle

I recently tried to print with a .2 nozzle, and the 1st layer wouldn’t adhere to the build plate. I tried cleaning the plate with Dawn dish soap. I also tried IPA. I tried 2 different build plate (PEI textured and PEI smooth). It prints the purge tower with no problems, but when it goes to print the actual print, it seems like the nozzle isn’t close enough to the bed and it prints spaghetti. These are the settings in the slicer.

Does this apply to all the models that you want to print with a 0.2 mm nozzle, or just to one specific model? It’s important to know this so that we can give you targeted advice. If it’s just one model, it would be helpful if you could provide a link or some pictures.

Generally speaking, it’s always a good idea to check whether the problem lies with the printer or the 3D model first. It might therefore be worth quickly printing a small cube, which takes less than 10 minutes.

Otherwise, all calibrations should be performed when changing the nozzle. Not mandatory, but advantageous. However, more information would be needed to provide more specific tips.

I have only tried it with one model. by the way this is a brand-new nozzle.

I did a full calibration when I swapped the nozzle.

I will try a test cube and see if that does it too. Thanks for the advice.

the problem you referenced has been corrected with a new .4 nozzle.

I have since printed a calibration cube and it printed good.

Then it’s probably due to the 3D model itself. You could try linking the 3D model or uploading a 3mf. If necessary, images will also work, but a 3D model is always better. :+1:

I was trying to print the plate with the single one it just to test it out. I printed it with the .4 nozzle but the text wasn’t very clear so I decided to try it with .2.

I print a lot of small or highly detailed models with a .2 nozzle but I also use a SuperTack plate and run it at 45 deg. I will offer this suggestion but don’t carve it in stone; Dawn is not my first choice in bed adhesion methods of cleaning. If you want to get any and all slippery stuff off your build plate, try Kleen Strip Brush Cleaner. Available at most hardware stores near you. I use a micro-fiber cloth to spread the cleaner around, scrub a little then dry it with another. Take them outside immediately to let them air out. After they dry and warm to room temp, spritz a little 90% alcohol on the plate, spread it around with a clean micro-fiber cloth then dry it with another. NEVER touch the build plate with your bare hands. I quit using hairspray and soaps of any kind, not that dependable.

A clean PEI bed likes 60 to 90 degrees. If it is not sticking and the bed has been properly prepped, raise the temp. If you are using a SuperTack plate, 45 deg will do just fine. Do not scrape that bed with anything sharp. Flex the plate and the models pop right off.

The model is partially flawed or incorrectly positioned. Take a look: the left side is lying down, while the right side is floating. The creator made a mistake.

…and thus explains precisely this problem. It’s not your fault, nor is it the printer’s fault. You can partially fix it by pressing this button to realign the models, but to be honest, I would choose a different model.

In addition, the font is not really optimized for 3D printing. Many gaps that can lead to problems - but don’t necessarily have to.

For something like this, it’s always better to use PEI smooth, which you already have anyway, as it has significantly better adhesion. :+1:

Das ist definitiv der beste Weg, um das Problem einzugrenzen. Bei einer 0.2mm Düse ist der Toleranzbereich für den “First Layer” extrem klein im Vergleich zur Standard 0.4er.

Wenn der Testwürfel sauber druckt, kannst du Hardware-Probleme ausschließen. Dann liegt es, wie Mike oben schon vermutet hat, ziemlich sicher an der Geometrie (schwebende Teile) oder der Positionierung des anderen Modells.

I think you are correct about a different model. I tried to lay on face and the face had a lot of points to lay it on. Looks like it isn’t flat.

I have a successful print. I was able to drop the print .04mm down into the plate and everything printed great. Thank you for the assist.
