I am printing a small connector that has a hole thru the wall for a fastener. I noticed that the central hole (inner contour) adjusts correctly, but somehow where my other hole penetrates thru the entire wall, it does not apply the X-Y compensation. so there is a section on the inner wall/hole that does not get compensated. To work around, i apply the same X-Y compensation on the contour but in the negative direction and that appears to fix it. See pictures.
OK, i spoke to soon. although the little ledge goes away when you apply a negative X-Y compensation, my outer contour diameter is also reduced (not desired…, so my only option is to adjust my 3D model or my layer width…
X/Y compensation is in the plane of the print bed(horizonal). Your example shows a hole in the Z axis(vertical). X/Y compensation will have no affect in that axis.
You misunderstood. I am perfectly aware of what X-Y compensation is and does. I am trying to compensate for the central large hole. NOT the small hole going through the wall. When i apply the XY comp, the small hole through the wall is not getting compensated, so it shows the little ledge on the Z axis… I believe it is a bug…
I’m guessing the software doesn’t consider that section a “hole” since it has a feature that goes through the side. So the x-y compensation doesn’t take.
As you said, your best option would be to modify the hole in CAD. If you don’t have access to modify the model, you could add a negative cylinder part that is slightly larger than the hole to create the space needed.
“Is this a hole” is a question asked per layer. The middle Z layers of this model does not have a hole
Your composite holes are too composite for the slicer to automatically do this for you
If you want bonus points and not even sure itll work, make a MODIFIER cylinder, and place it at the exact z boundaries of the hole, overlapping only your inner diameter. Give this a double XY contour value. it might work? But the wall solver might just throw it up
In my opinion, X-Y hole compensation is a completely useless feature failing in more than one way. The issue you found is one of them. Another is that it applies to all inner contours. A rectangular hole gets the same compensation although it wouldn’t need one. Instead of that stupid definition of a hole, it should compensate based on curvature, no matter if a convex line is inside or outside or interrupted.
