Is anyone else having “crossover” issues with the Bambu Filament Refills? Twice now, I’ve done all the steps. secured the roll before removing the little bands that tie it etc. and when I go to use it, the filament winds up being pinched on the sides binding the AMS motor. Last time it took me nearly half the roll of periodically manually pulling it out during print jobs before it settled. The second roll I’ve ever tried just did the same thing. Is there a trick I’m missing?

Are you using actual Bambu spools, or ones you’ve printed yourself/third party spools? I’ve found that some non-official spools lack stiffness, can lead to the coil of filament pushing sideways and the loops shifting, resulting in this pinching you’re talking about.

Both of these are plastic and are damaged slightly with every go, so it is an eventuality that your spools locking tabs will wear out. Inspect, if it is, just toss it.

Great info, it did click (but I’ll tripple-check), and it was a brand-new spool out of the box.
Did you “massage” the filament pack after you closed the spool, squeezing it and compressing it so that it spreads out to fill the open space between the filament pack and the spool sides? Bambu recommends that.
There are also shims that go on one or both sides of the filament pack to fill up the empty space between the filament and the spool. Search MakerWorld for “refill spacers”. They seem to help. I think you need one with a hole big enough that it doesn’t force the cardboard core away from the side of the spool, creating even more space. I’ve trimmed the center hole of the shim larger with scissors to avoid that happening.
Oh,and print some of the little spool locks that go inside the hub to keep the spool from coming apart as the built-in locking tabs wear. Ask me how I know to do that.

Thank you! I’ll definitely look into all of your suggestions and will “massage” it next go-around.
The last refills I used and a bit wider so there is no need to “massage” them as they fit perfectly.

For me some refills i have this problem the filament stuck in the lateral and i need to help the printer and get stuck.
This started to happen to last batch i bought maybe (5-6 times), i spend maybe 300+ refill rolls and this problem in general is minor.
Three times printer all night stopped because of this, i think its a bad factory winding some filament go down in lateral when are packed or put the plastic strips and later the printer get stuck.

Thanks for that info. The 2nd roll has so far only done it once. I have been using it today for some smaller projects with no issues. If you’ve used 300 rolls and only seen it a few times then I’ll consider it a one-off. that being said, I got some great info from other members about massaging and health of the spools. Great knowledge to gain!

Hello,
I only had an issue with one roll, and it was because I missed the notch on the cardboard roll. The code/tag piece needs to fit into the matching slot on the plastic spool.
My guess is that on the first roll, I aligned it correctly by accident.

Same here, I got two rolls the same day where the spool kept locking up the AMS, and in the end I cut it free. Im not sure it worth my time to respool it, but I hope it will not happen often.

Never had this happen to me untill the last batch I ordered. It’s been 3 refills in a row that does this. They’re definitely not wound properly.
A while ago, maybe 9 months or so, this was a major problem. Happened to me maybe one spool in 3. Bambu had real quality control issues with their refills.
Then it got a lot better. I’ve only had it once in maybe the last 50 refills.
The massage technique mentioned above is definitely worth doing anyway.
That is disheartening. Let’s hope they are aware and take steps to improve. Sounds very hit-and-miss.
I had the same issue with 2 spools that were NOT refills. It just kept causing the error and drove me nuts. After those 2 spools were gone I never saw the issue again.
Absolutely. Everything done correctly but it’s as if the filament is wound crossed over and it can happen anywhere from the top to about the middle of the spool. And this is with refills and filament purchased on spools.
