Perhaps a grommet edging/liner type (U profile) printed in TPE would work and also would increase the roller ‘grip’ and also dampen vibration I have noticed. It could be re-used from spool to spool. Grommet edging is also available commercially but it seems only in Polyethylene which is more rigid and slippery. We’ll see what I decide on.
