I have had A1 printer for a year now. Now I purchased P2S and I found some issues with Bambu Studio.
I read some thread where people where asking about setting default printer but none really resolved the issue. Some said that when you open Bambu Studio it shows the printer that you used last time. This is not the case.
I used P2S and when I opened Bambut Studio next time it shows only A1 printer.
Clicking on the printer shows only A1 printer as you can see on the photo.
When I go the the “Device” I can select P2S printer, After that going back to “Prepare” I can somehow select P2S printer.
But the problem is still with Selection of the Project Filaments. As you can see on the picture below it shows only A1 Printer.
When I try to change filament for example in slot 5 - see picture below - I only get two options for P2S - Bamu and Generic. There is no way to select other Filaments. I want to use Sunlu.
And, by the way, the printer itself (on the touch screen) has only those 2 filament available. Not like A1.
Clicking on “Add Filaments” open the screen with Project Filaments and only A1 printer. So I can’t change/add anything.
So my questions are:
How to set default printer?
Why is only one printer listed if I have to registered?
How to change project filaments (system filaments) to currently used printer so I can use filaments like Sunlu for example.
The issue is partially solved.
To get the second printer P2S I had to select “Add/Remove printers”. Now I have both printers.
How could I miss it?
But the problem with Sunlu (and other vendors) filaments can’t be solved. See the picture below.
So I spent $1000 on a new (new design) printer and it only supports Bambu and Generic filaments?
I know I can set printing parameters or create custom filament parameters, but why do I have to do it when the printer that I bought a year ago didn’t have this issue?
I wish I knew it before I purchased it.
I wonder if all other printers have the same options with selection of filament vendors - Bambu and Generic?
you dont have to own any printer to explore this - just tell bambustudio you want to add one.
re: unsupported, well, yeah. Bambu’s releasing 4 printers this year, they apparently ran out of time to test, and gave that job to you =p Others mention generic profiles seem fine, minus some people who have issues with PETG. Different vendors PETG formulas can need large differences of cooling settings, so thats a little unsurprising.
Yes. I know that now. But I expected that it will be the same as in the “Devices” tab where both printers are listed there and you can select one.
Unless you mean “to explore what filaments are supported”? I didn’t expected that it would be (much) different from old A1
As I recall, when I bought my X1 a few years back, I had to choose all the filament brands and types that I wanted. By default, it only showed Bambu and Generic types. Last year I bought and H2D and it was the same. Filaments aren’t shared between printers that I’m aware of.
So your A1 filaments won’t be seen when using the P2S. The filaments settings may be different for different printers so each printer only sees what you choose for it.
May be different when using 2 different models. A1 and P2S, P2S and P1S or the like.
I have 2 P1S and the profile for the second used the same filament selections from the first. I did however have to select all the filaments we use when we moved my daughters Mini out to use for work.
I expected that the newer printer will be better than the old one. But it seems I was wrong.
A1 printer firmware has support for other vendors. Although not Sunlu. But you can selected in Bambu Studio.
P2S printer firmware has support only for Bambu and Generic. And in Bambu Studion you can select only those two as well.
I only use printers if I need to make something for myself. So I don’t spent time trying to figure out the best settings. I expected this from Bambu. But I guess they want to support their (although they don’t manufacture them) filaments. I only bought Sunlu a couple of months ago because there was an issue with getting PETG HF from Bambu and they didn’t have an outlook for getting them.
I guess I can use A1 for Sunlu filaments.
You’re using a slicer, it’s an incredibly powerful tool, you dont need to give up like the hamstrung mobile users have to. You just need to fill in the blanks. Literally load up a sunlu PLA profile on your A1, take a screenshot, change back to your current printer, and diff it against what the generic PLA profile is, carry across whatever is relevant. Or use export/imports. Or just save as the generic, and start making your own. The vast vast vast majority of filaments are 3 simple tests away from perfection: Pressure advance, flow RATE, and temp tower.
Thanks for your help. I know that I can (and will) do it like that. But why “Experts” from Bambu Labs didn’t do it?
Funny enough, I forgot that I used Bambu PETG HF profile and printed using Sunlu filament and the print looks OK.

I would guess that since it’s the newest printer you may just be waiting on the presets to be added. Sucks, you’ll have to create your own if you really need it.
I’ve often just used BBL presets for Sunlu or Overture etc. Those presets either work well or will give you a starting point.
Too busy putting out fires with new firmware on new machines on new platforms to worry about that, I guess. A more cynical person would say that they’re just waiting for their customers to generate all the profiles, [which they have access to read - that stuff is stored in your cloud account], and can just compile/collate/average them later based off that.
