I am new to 3D printing and I have tried to dip my toes in PETG printing on my A1 with the AMS lite. I have read quite a lot of different guides but I still find it rather confusing how to properly set up a custom filament in BambuStudio. I bought 4 spools of JAYO High Speed Matte PETG with the following parameters:
I started off by creating a new filament under “Custom Filaments” using “Generic PETG” as a template in BambuStudio. Most of it I filled out as suggested by ChatGPT - I myself have no clue what to set the fields to. I didn’t touch any of the advanced settings. This is what I ended up with:
Then I proceeded to the “Calibration” tab and did the automatic Flow Dynamics calibration, which saves a new profile. After that I did the manual Flow Rate calibration, and selected “0” for both, this also saves a new profile. What I do then is that I go to the Device tab, press on the AMS slot with the filament and press “Load”. I click on the pen icon on the spool which opens “AMS material settings”, here I select the PA profile from the first calibration.
Then in the “Prepare” tab I delete all project filaments except one, where I select the new profile that I created after the second calibration (under User presets > Custom).
I leave the rest as is, because it is set by the selected print profile from MakerWorld, if I understood correctly. When I slice plate/print profile, will it use the settings of the filament in “Project filaments”, or do I somehow have to explicitly assign it to the model?
Does this workflow seem correct, is there anything I might have missed?
Do I need to repeat this process for all spools, or should it work the same for all of them?
Anyway, what makes me unsure if I’m doing it right is that the quality is so-so, I have a bunch of stringing issues and some botched prints behind me. I have done a bunch of calibrations and started over several times, not really fully knowing what I’m doing. Here are some examples of what I had along the way:
