For the first few months I owned my P1S the nozzle performs a wiping procedure in the
”wiping zone” of the build plate before each print. It specifically makes use of the elongated slot on the back of the build plate to do so. The nozzle will drag across this slot to clean the nozzle’s tip, making use of the edge’s of this elongated slot to scrap the print head for each of the tip’s side.
My P1S is now missing the elongated slot for this procedure and instead scraping along the build plate itself just above the slot.
Each mention discovers this because it grinds a hole in the build plate, and consensus is this is normal and fine. But no one has mentioned my observation that when the machine is new it performs this action within the "elongated slot”. It appears anyone who replied is unaware of this?
I’ve tried calibrating but that did not fix it. Any thoughts?
The slot is designed to make the tab behind it a bit more flexible. The coating will wear off, but there is no danger of grinding a hole in the metal plate or damaging the nozzle.
The nozzle should not be wiping in the slot, but on the tab behind the slot. If it were wiping in the slot, I would suspect the plate was not installed correctly.
Oh interesting! For the first few months it appeared it was intentionally wiping along the edges of the opening. Being new to 3D printing I always watched closely in amazement. I was also pretty sure I always pushed the build plate up against the back of the guides to make sure it was installed correctly.
I imagine you are correct about the reason for the slot. But what I observed from looking through the P1S door was that the tip was wiping the furthest side of the tip against the furthest edge of the slot and then the nozzle would move to wipe the closer side of the tip against the closer side of the slot’s edge, and it would repeat that motion.
I will ignore this because I must be wrong, but I am also curious if anyone else has observed this because it was something I watched repeatedly 50+ times when first experiencing this awe of this machine. Then I stopped watching, and now I clearly see what you describe. …i dunno..
