PTFE tube question

Hey there. Can I put longer PTFE tubes on the AMS? Let´s say a meter long?

Can’t help with a meter, all I ever had was around 80cm.
I guess as long as it won’t violate any timers the length is relative.

Be are you may need some extra support for the longer tubes as they will droop considerably. I had bought some new tubing to move my AMS farther away to the side, and that was the biggest issue. .

It will probably be easier to just use a PTFE tube connector instead of replacing the one inside the AMS

Yes, you can do that.
It doesn’t matter whether you use a new tube or connect two.
I have also not been able to detect any ‘time-out’ that could cause a problem. In my case, the tube was not connected correctly to the printer once and the AMS delivered filament like crazy. There was no error that the filament never arrived at the printer…

Hmm… two conflicting posts above. One says it will keep feeding, the video says there is a limit. While I have not tried it (I may later) IMO the video one probably got hung up on the splice connector. PTFE tubing is relatively cheap, so why use splices???

Ok, so I ran a test on mine. I disconnected one tube. I put a fresh spool on the AMS and let it feed the amount it normally does. Then I tried to do a print. It did error out. I measured the total distance from the AMS end of the tube to the end of the filament. It was 5ft 3 in.

But realistically, you could use longer tubes, you just need to manually push a fresh spool into the tube farther to begin with. When the AMS does color changes, it only retracts it a few inches. The only issue would be with a fresh spool, and even then you can just hit retry when it errors and it will push more.

I think the only real limitation on tube length would be resistance of the filament in the tube causing an error if it detected too much drag.
