Questions for Mini Tanks / Hardware Kit and such stuff

Hi guys,

i’m totally new here and very interessted in printing some cool things like the CyberBrick Mini Tanks. But i don’t get it, what do i need for it?

For the Mini Tanks, for example, i could buy the MiniTank Set (2 Remotes, 2 Cars). That would be 74 Euros. I could also buy the double Hardware Kit for 63 Euros. As far as i can see, there is no difference in box contents, so why should i buy the more expansive one?

And: Is it possible to buy the Mini Tanks Bundle and later to upload the files for the Soccer Bot on the Hardware Kit, for example? Do i have to buy the whole kit then again or can i just download the files (for free?)

The mini tank kit requires an additional servo if you purchase the 2 vehicle, 2 remote kit.

This is due to the double kit not having 2 x 180° & 2 x 360° servos included.

It also comes with a “free” gift of:

  • 2 x extra li-ion batteries kit (with switch and cables)
  • 1 x Screwdriver pack

Having just printed these myself yesterday and having a quick play, they are very enjoyable.

I had all the parts, but then I have far too much CyberBrick packs and lots of spares.

Thank you for your reply. Ok, that would explain the higher price vs. the “naked” Hardware Kits.

So, am i right that if i buy a hardware kit, i can upload every code for other stuff?

Yes, the CyberBrick kits sold as part of a demonstrated model are the normal ones, just sometimes with extra parts specific to the model.

I built the tanks, using a standard ultimate kit which I already had, plus the extra bits from other parts I had already built.

I had two remotes already printed and assigned to other models, I just told them to work with the tanks.

I can go back and forth as I want.

I can get bored, print a different model and swap over the parts.

I am lucky enough to have my friend’s kids over for a few hours and they haven’t stopped playing with them.

You can design your own models and use them for that.

@MalcTheOracle do you know if there are onshape or fusion files for the soccer bot. down the line, id like to modify the design and its nice to have everything in an assembly. All I see are STLs which are not parametric and would be daunting to manually create an assembly. Not impossible, but annoying.

There only is one Servo-Kit included in the 2 remote 2 car set. What sense makes this, so only one car is fully operable?

I agree and have been complaining about it.

If you say “1 vehicle & 1 remote” then have a version with two of each, that should have two of everything.

While many models fail to use the tyres, things like LEDs are used. Providing 2 hubs and 6 LEDs isn’t twice that of 1 hub and 4 LEDs. Providing 100 screws for a single kit and the same number for the ultimate kit isn’t twice it is the same.

There are so many examples like the servo you noted.

Also, bad choices, one rechargeable battery per kit when you need one for the vehicle and another for the remote. The AAA battery pack is wasteful for the environment and expensive for the models to keep replacing fir brand new batteries, it delivers a poor experience for the users, particularly kids who can’t use the vehicle as much as parents are concerned by the constant money being wasted.
