Hi, I’m a new user here on MakerWorld and I have a few questions. First, is it possible for people to see and download your models without having a print profile? Next, is MakerWorld easy to gain points on? Last, how do you get points fast on MakerWorld/What is the quickest way to gain points? Thank you!
Edit: Forgot to say this but the reason I was wondering about the print profiles is because my model has been up for 17 hours and there are no view.
Upload high quality models that will be needed to many users/will be printed a lot.
Let’s be real. You uploaded a child’s toy and … you expect what? Them to use a desktop with a slicer? I mean… keep expectations real for people with attention span of a canary. If they can’t print from Handy - they will not print it. So your best bet would be to provide a print profile for commonly used printers, like A1 series.
To put it bluntly, if you’re expecting to receive a free printer through points, you’re in for a disappointment.
It does work, but it might take about a year. The results come slowly but steadily. It’s more of something that builds up over the years and pays off in the end.
To do this, you’ll need to upload various models that are at least of reasonably good quality. As a beginner, I always recommend tackling a small, everyday problem, because you’ll learn a lot in the process.
With fidget toys? I don’t think you stand a chance, unless you develop one that’s truly outstanding. This fidget toy, for example, was quite successful and was uploaded recently. Why was it successful? Because it uses a mechanism that was fairly new.
Setting aside the number of views for a moment: Ask yourself why anyone would want to download this when there are already thousands of better versions available. Bear in mind: This isn’t meant to discourage you, but rather to encourage you to think about what small, realistic and useful projects you can carry out.
Nothing prevents you from downloading Bambu Studio, adding printers there and generating 3mf files for profiles. Just make sure that those profiles are actually printable.
You need to be in the Exclusive program, which basically means you license it under SDFL/MEL, which is basically the most closed source a model can be. You can’t post it on any other website besides Makerworld. You will get exclusive points, which can be exchanged for real money.
I don’t recommend doing this if you are going to design models which are actually useful for the community. Put it this way: Bambu Lab is paying creators to keep their models off competitor’s sites. If you are going to make fidget toys then it doesn’t matter, you can be in the exclusive program, but since I make stuff like pen plotters and robots, I appreciate open source.
