I feel like I am working for Makerworld. I love designing things to upload and get so much joy out of seeing other people printing my designs. But I feel like the designs that does the best are the simple quick prints and the once that I make lot’s of effort for gets less traction. This true for everyone else too?
If so, we maybe need a “paid for designs” section, where we can upload the massive effort designs and get rewarded by actual payments. I am pretty sure Makerworld can make some nice commision that way too.
I get the sentiment, as most of my projects have required a fair bit of effort and detail
But i am firmly against a paid model scheme, that’s what thangs/mmf/cults/printables/patreon/gumroad/bmac etc are all for.
This is the only place to ensure you’ll get free models where the creator gets some kind of compensation (points for filament) and i’m not just being gateway’d into a subscription
For me it’s the other way round. But I think that might be due to the presentation. I don’t use Blender or AI to create product images. Which means that the small things are often not displayed well. With the more complicated and elaborate models (which are also larger) the pictures are better again. Apart from that, people love designs that are well made, which I notice from the encouragement in the comments. But that’s one thing with the print plates.
Normally, each print plate of a model counts as a print. I don’t know how it is now. But only on 1 third of my models with multiple plates, apparently all plates are printed. Mostly the models are downloaded. But not printed? Or just 1 print plate? One explanation for this would be that some people simply download in order to obtain certain information. For example, how certain things were solved or done and then only print out one specific thing? This theory is supported by the fact that there are no pictures of the assembled models in the comments. Tell us what you think about it. Strange …
I noticed my larger projects jumped when boosts were released initially, but sometimes it just feels like people will find the easiest thing to use a boost on due to the expiration
I try to use my boosts on things that feel like they deserve a bit of an extra tip, I will be thinking harder about future boost usage
I can’t print extremely complex projects so I prefer to use my boosts for simple functional models, especially for creators with less traction than the usual big ones.
Let’s face it, most of you big guys don’t need my boost
I have some big and multi plated projects but normally i don’t upload them and i just use them for myself or when someone orders one.
When Makerworld started i uploaded some of those multi plated models only to find out that people would pick the files and upload them somewhere else as their own or, they would only print parts of it so they could be able to give ratings and collect those reward points.
Since then i only upload nonsense models that i use and print, even if they don’t give me such big reward points.
Most people are not into big prints and newcomers in this 3d printing world want simple and fun projects that they can show to their kids or family.
Me? If a multi plate project gathers my interest, i am all in
I can totally respect that reasoning. Always nice to help out smaller creators that’s just getting started. It’s a bit of a confidence boost and motivation to design more and better things. I like that answer. I know that I am just getting started and getting a boost or a positive rating is a thrill every time.
That’s a good point. However I have noticed that on Pintables they have store models, which is not a subscription, but just a way to support the creator with some cash in exchange for the print files. I like supporting creators that way.
I guess that’s the problem with Free.. If a person paid for a model, you are more likely to want to get your money’s worth and more likely to print the full model. that being said, I purchased some models once and still haven’t printed them
Anyway. I like making large multi-plate models. People enjoy stuff like that too. I realized it’s kind of like lego in a sense. People enjoy cool thought out projects. It’s easy to get disillusioned looking at the 2 minute models raking in those sweet internet likes. I could probably pump out housewares all day and, I don’t know. I mean, my heart isn’t in that. It really isn’t. I find though that there’s a thriving community that does enjoy larger and more complex projects. When you just focus on trendy things, it may not always seem like it.
