Quick Way to Disable Steppers

If you are like me and want a quick way to disable the XY steppers, without turning off the printer, just download this file, remove the “.3MF” extension, and put it on your SD card. Run the file and your steppers will be disabled.

Stepper-Release.gcode.3mf (2.1 KB)

This is a really interesting 3mf file; as it commands a disengage of the xy steppers… any reason why this doesn’t do the z-axis (plate) too, or does the plate just fall on the floor if you disengage it?

thanks!

Make sure if you use it, you rename to remove the 3MF extension. It’s just on there so the forum allows the upload. It’s really a straight gcode file.

I didn’t disable the Z steppers because I have never had the need, and pushing manually on a 3 lead screw bed is asking to throw off the tramming. When I need Z to move, I just use the jog buttons on the touchscreen. I believe there is enough friction in Z to prevent it from falling.
