Rating without actually printing the model

I am going to start this with being clear that I didn’t actually rate the model in question.

I may have what might prove to be a bad habit. I often will simply delete what is on the build plate in my slicer and replace it with a new model. In this particular case I had downloaded a model from MakeWorld and decided I wanted to make a bit of a modification to it. About an hour later I decided it was instead going to be easier to build my part myself and so eventually I deleted the downloaded model from the build plate and dumped my model on instead. After completing the print I notice that Bambu Studio (and MakerWorld when I check the website) is requesting that I rate the print.

It seems like a easy to exploit “bug” if I can download a huge print and replace it with a tiny print (as was my case here by the way) and still be able to add a rating. As I said at the top, I didn’t rate this model. I didn’t actually print it, so it would not be an honest rating and besides I didn’t feel like finding out the hard way that Bambu really can see if I “cheated”.

So does MakerWorld do anything to check to make sure I printed what I downloaded?

That’s a know gap. It’s hard until impossible to close, as there are quite too many parameters (e.g. only printing a variante of the model, as more variants are on the same print plate, printing more or less quantity, using another filament or change the print settings to fit your filament, etc.).

Hmm, I guess it should have occurred to me that I often do the things you described without it removing my ability to rate the print. Oh well - I suppose like everything else in the end it is up to us to deal with things like our reviews honestly.

I mean, I never tried. But what if you scale the model x100 times. Like a 5seconds/2 layers print. Will it still unlock the review?

Yes, but what is the benefit of it?

Farming points.
I wouldn’t do that ofc. 50 points a month are just 2-3 milestone rewards.
Still, kinda exploitable.
