I’ve been working on adding a motor to the wonderful Pasta Lite respooler - it uses one of those really cheap ($1 - $2) TT motors and an equally cheap speed controller:

I was very surprised that these small motors have the torque to drive the respooler but it turns out they do. I originally had intended to use an old spindle from my CNC but it turned out to be way too fast and overpowered so I started looking at smaller motors. The TT motor turned out to be the smallest I could get away with that still had enough power. My first draft of this used a 4:1 reduction gear but it turned out not to be necessary. Although the motor is ostensibly 3 - 6V, it works quite nicely using 2 x 3.7V lithium cells in series - in fact there’s a rechargeable lithium battery available in the same format as 9V batteries that is ideal.
