Recommend Filament Type

I’ve been 3D printing for a while but have always used PLA. I want to use something that is mechanically much stronger, is suitable for use outside, and, preferably, does not produce toxic fumes when printing. I’m thinking ASA or PETG. I’ve heard the former is “harder to print” but I am not really sure what that entails. I also understand that ASA does produce toxic fumes though perhaps not as much as other options. Therefore, I am leaning towards PETG. I am simply looking for recommendations.

PETG is a good next step when coming from PLA. Alternatively, you could consider PC. But I’d recommend getting to grips with PETG first.

If you printed only with PLA until now go with PETG, it gives much less headaches if something does not workout than ASA/ABS, it usually doesn’t have problems. You could also try out TPU to give some flexibility to your prints, as this is a flexible plastic filament, but it is more prone to having issues only if you do not try out completely and correctly.
So, from the two options you considering go with PETG, but you can also try TPU if you can dry it, it is very fun to print and use.

Even as a newbie I can propose clearly PETG HF. It is a compromise solution between PLA and ABS. Be careful using the PETG CF. It is reinforced with carbon fiber and it is not recommended to use it with the AMS (I havnt tried and I dont know why to be honest). For me the cutter wears out faster which is located in the tool head. So why AMS is not recommended I have no idea.

But PETG HF is cool stuff.
