TL;DR, Can you reduce the size (mm³) of the primetower in regards to the 0.2mm nozzle

This has been bugging me for quite sometime since the release of the H2D and their new primetower. For some reason I can’t resize it anymore. When I want to start a dual or multi colored print, obviously I want to use the prime tower, but as the screenshot shows, regardless of how many objects you have, the primetower will be huge and take up a lot of print time and filament compared to the model.
In the previous Bambu Studio version they added a new filament parameter for primetower amount in mm³ (which didn’t do much tbh), but now it’s gone again with the newest version of Bambu Studio.
Am I missing something somewhere in the settings, or is there absolutely no other way to get around this until Bambu Labs finally optimises profiles for 0.2mm nozzles or give the user more freedom in adjusting certain settings?
I’ve seen people saying “Just print more models, so ratio waste to model will be smaller”, but that isn’t always the solution if you just need 1 or 2 small models than only take 3 hours to print, but thanks to that primetower take up to 18-19 hours.
Printer is a H2D, but that shouldn’t matter in this case.
The two values with the green bracket affect the prime tower size when you only do a hotend change (leaving the same filament in each hotend for the print).
(You may need to enable advanced or developer settings to display these)
From my experience so far these values are by far too high (the shown values are the default). I reduce the prime volume by 2/3 (so in the shown example I would put in 20 mm³) and reduce the ramming volume by 1/2 (resulting in 5 mm for this example)
This reduces the amount of tower material significantly with no negative effect at all on my print quality. So I can not see any difference at all with using the bigger values (default Bambu) or my reduced values.
But to be noted: I keep all my filament dry all the time. During printing and when storing.
Oh thanks for pointing out! Yes, I also saw those parameters, but I took it too litteral and thought it was for H2C nozzle swapping, so I didn’t take these into consideration.
I’ll have a look at it later to see how it affects my print, thanks a lot.
Regarding your advice, those prime volumes and ramming lenghts, do you use those values for a 0.4mm nozzle or 0.2mm nozzle?
With your values I didn’t even come close to an acceptable tower (I only tried it for a 0.2mm nozzle, not 0.4), but for a 0.2mm nozzle I had to even further reduce it to 1mm³ and 2mm respectively. I had also have to do the same for the “filament change” and “extruder change”, which kinda makes sense if I think about it.

For this print I also changed the “Length when change hotend” to 2mm to match the ramming length. To be honest I can’t really tell if it actually helped.
I am using the reduced settings with both 0.4 mm and 0.2 mm nozzles and I agree, it’s still to much priming.
That whole flush/prime volume (for proper print quality) is something that other manufacturers can do with a lot less. Maybe try to reduce the values even further.
Would it be possible, instead of printing a prime tower, to clean the nozzle by printing the infill?
Before a color change, the printing order of the infill could be rearranged: first the outer lines would be printed, and then the infill would be printed using the new color.
The software would calculate whether the infill volume is sufficient to clean the nozzle.
If it were not enough, it would still print a prime tower — but made narrower or wider for that layer, depending on what is needed.
Not sure what you mean with “clean”.
For priming I guess it is not ideal to do that into the infill. For flushing, yes, it is possible and can be enabled in the process settings.
