Regarding the motion system of the P2S

I have not been involved in 3D printing for a while, but I recently bought a P2S and had a question for the pros.

If I am remembering correctly, the P1S had a critical oversight with its motion system that resulted in varying degrees of ringing/ghosting no matter what you did. In my case, it was really bad so I had to deep dive into the topic to try to figure out what it was. I believe it had to do with the idler pulleys being improperly designed so the belts wouldn’t sit in the center and would instead rub against the flanges of the idler pulley, causing excess friction. I remember also hearing that the belts used on the P1S weren’t authentic and were some cheaper knockoff versions? So the result was ringing.

Is any of this fixed in the P2S? I see that the P2S spare parts are separately sold from the P1S, either to prevent confusion or the parts are actually different?

I have not seen any ringing on my P1S.

It seems to vary per person. I am aware some people never had issues with ringing on their printers, but a minority, including myself, unfortunately did. In my case, I had to get a replacement P1S from Bambu because the ringing was so bad, especially when I would print PETG. Alas, the underlying issue with the motion system is still prevalent on the P1S, with the idler pulleys and belts.

There are a few things there…

  1. The motion system on the P2S is different (yet similar) to the P1S. Parts are not interchangeable. P2 and P1 quality is very very similar.
  2. I have not had much to any experience with ringing on the P1S, but this is usually a result of tensioning failing.
  3. Knock off parts?

Yes, but the tensioning system on the P1S is flawed and difficult because in most cases it is impossible to get the pulleys perfectly straight, so the belts ride along the flanges of the idler pulleys.

I could be entirely wrong here, but I believe I remember hearing Bambu used cheaper belts than the standard?

It’s good to know the motion system is redesigned, I would hope the redesign would include them fixing these issues.

Stupid question.

Why does it matter? Is your P2S not printing well?

I understand being concerned about print quality, but I would have made that decision repurchase.

I don’t know where you’re getting this, but I own 2 and no issues like what your describing, and I’ve owned one for 3+ years.

No, the P2S is fine, I am not concerned about print quality. I asked this question out of curiosity, as I knew they redesigned the motion system, but I was curious as to whether or not they fixed this issue.

People actually questionned not the fact that the belt could run a bit sideways and drag against the flanges but that the tooth side of the belt runs on some smooth pulleys rather that the back of the belt thinking this could be the reason for some VFA and some tried to replace those pulleys by toothed ones. I think nobody proved it made any difference and my H2C is built the same… so no, issue is not fixed because there is no issue.

Thank you! Appreciate knowing I’m not making any of this up.
