Remix/Variation of an Exclusive model

I created Twisted Temple, a very popular exclusive model on Makerworld. I have since made a version 2 of the game with several key changes to ease printing/assembly, and a much better way to store the pieces which is a major change to the main part of the model.

Would you recommend I upload separate version 2 model, upload a separate profile within the current profile, or update the current profile? I don’t want to create confusion with those who have already printed or are in the midst of printing the game and make it easy for people to understand the different between the two versions.

I also want to abide by the rules of the exclusive program.

Thanks for your thoughts. I can provide more specifics on the changes if that helps to better understand.

Currently I am updating the existing profiles. And I provide releases as raw data as Backup. I feel this provides the least amount of confusion. For user that have started printing it - they will probably have a local version anyway. Otherwise, they can grab the resources from the “Download STL/CAD” file section.

I would state in the description and probably also in the thumbnail that revision is currently available. This model of mine has seen some iterations.

Hope this helps your decision. Love that you maintain your model .

Separate model for sure. People will see it and see that it’s version two so they know to print it again. Plus you can keep the old one around to show the difference. When I released a V2 of my most popular model I released it separately and then went through a few of the comments and replied with a link. It helped jumpstart the model a bit, and then it started to grow naturally so more people who printed V1 saw it. For minor iterations, I agree with @benjaminkott on posting it as a profile, but for major iterations I’d recommend a separate model.

I’ve been thinking about how to handle this as well. You want the exposure of a new model posting as an old model with a new version will not start trending again, though it will still get a lot of visibility on the For You page for folks since your model is already really popular (awesome game by the way).

According to the exclusive rules, you can’t have variations of a model with the same name and add “V2”.

MakerWorld Exclusive Model Guideline | Bambu Lab Wiki

  1. Variations of existing models. For example, V2/V3 of the same filament clip or orange peeler. If it’s an entirely new design, rename it as a new model but not using the same name and adding a V2. Only enter one version into the program. Other versions of the same model will be removed for not meeting the requirement for originality.

Ouch, that will hurt some users :see_no_evil:.

Yes, it is designed from the ground up and the names are differenr (Fidget Hexagon Twist and Hexagon Twist Fidget V2). It was a test of SEO, I was trying to rank first for “fidget” but I’m still stuck at second for some reason :person_shrugging:

Unless I’m reading it wrong the rule stipulates that you can’t have versions of the same model in the Exclusive model program. So, you can have it set up so that you have “model”, “model v2” and only “model v3” in the exclusive model program or you have to come up with other names eg “model”, “super model”, “ultra model”
