First time printing TPU, had to remove the AMS, run the TPU through the slot in the back etc.
I had trouble removing the PTFE tube from the toolhead, you can see the black connectors where the tubes enter the toolhead in the pic below (ignore the red arrow)
The instructions weren’t that clear, they said to pinch the black part around the PTFE tube to release it from the hotend? The black part barely moves, feels almost solid.
I pushed down on the black nub, that didn’t work. One of the other pics looked like the person was pushing the black part forward and then pulling up on the PTFE, tried that ,didn’t work.
I eventually got the tube out, but not sure what released it.
When working with PTFE connections, it’s important to follow the correct procedure to avoid damaging either the tubing or the connector.
Always begin by pressing the connector down firmly. While keeping it depressed, gently push the PTFE tubing slightly further into the fitting—this helps release the internal grip. Then, while still holding the connector down, carefully pull the PTFE tube out. This method ensures that the internal teeth disengage smoothly.
Simply pulling on the tube without this step can damage the teeth or deform the tubing, which may lead to leaks or poor performance.
In your case, press down the black connector, push the PTFE tube in slightly, and then pull it out—all while keeping the connector pressed down. The tube should come out easily unless there’s filament stuck inside, in which case a bit more effort may be needed.
Many people don’t, and end up yanking it out—risking damage in the process.
But this applies to any PTFE coupler: always depress the release ring, push the PTFE tube in slightly, then pull it out while keeping the release depressed.
After many nozzle changes I no longer bother pulling the tubes out, they are empty anyway. I can see it if there is still filament in them, but no other reason I see for removing them.
The fitting has a ring of barbs that grip the tube, when you push it down it releases the tension against the barbs, but you also have to push the tube down to release the grip on the tube. Once you get the hang of it the tubes come out as if they weren’t connected. It’s not something that can be done one handed very easily, it can be, but you need good dexterity to keep from screwing up.
