Request: Custom Filament Options

Custom Filamant names.

I brought the X1C via the Kickstarter, and have had the H2D now for nearly a year.

Custom filaments are horrible on both of them. On the H2D, I wanted to add CC3D’s PBT filament, but there is simply no dropdown option to select PBT. So I have had to create it like its PETG, and just rename it to be PBT. Why can this not be sorted so we can have custom filament names, for ones that Bambu doesnt offer themselves.

Same as when you go to the printer itself and on its screen, try and select the filamant on the screen itself. I have to select PETG on there too. Why is it so limited? Surely you are not so pressed for storage on the H2D that you cannot have custom names in here, or at least sync names from Bambu Studio? You would then actually be able to se min/max temps as shown on the printer, rather than whatever generic setting you had to select.

Surely we should be able to create filamants such as PBT, PBT CF (Pro) etc from vendors like CC3D, and type in the vendors name and type in the filament name - instead of having to ‘trick’ the system to thinking its PETG all the time.

This has been an issue for years and nothing seems to be changing, and it has just become accepted practice to use this work around. This should change, as once you get quite a list going of filamanets that are not from Bambu Lab, having them all as PETG is a bit stupid.

When creating a custom filament, you can enter the Vendor if its not in the list, but you cannot enter a filament if its not in the list. So you can only select things like PETG here. You can only change the ‘Serial’ to be PBT. So the custom filament ends up being called “CC3D PETG PBT” which is just silly. But none of this gets synced with the printers menu anyway, so you still have to select PETG on the printer itself. It shouldnt be like this.

Can something be done about this and finally make this filamant situation as it should be?

I’d recommend additionally posting that on GitHub, directly to the developers. In this forum, it’s mostly the support team that’s active. However, the question or request is so specific to the software that it’s probably better suited on GitHub. The developers even respond there fairly regularly.

Its already there from someone else, but it was suggested to do a feature request. I assumeed this forum was for that, but obviously not?

Like I said, of course you can post this on the forum, but this is more of a support channel. The developers are on GitHub. If you post it on GitHub as well, it will reach the developers faster. :+1:

It’s just too bad that the topic you linked to was posted in the wrong category - as a bug instead of a feature request. It seems the original poster didn’t comply with the request to repost this in the correct category?

Good point, I have put it in the feature request now

Thanks

Just keep in mind that there is a lot of Logic in the slicer regarding the chosen material types. For instance the way a prime towers behaves. If you look into the different gcode sections in the slicer it involves a lot there.

So just creating a new material type from scratch, would cause the printer to miss crucial information at some point and possibly making less optimal decisions based on that.

For now I would definitely advise you to choose a material type that is close to the PBT.
Possibly PETG is a good reference, but regarding temperatures it’s more leaning towards ABS.
