Requesting help troubleshooting a multi-nozzle printing issue

I was hoping someone in the community could help me troubleshoot an issue I’m experiencing with multi-nozzle prints on the H2D. I’m kind of at my whits end but I bet I’m missing something obvious - maybe someone here has solved this before?

In the image below, you can see the same part printed 3 times (the two on the right were aborted):

  1. The print on the left is printed in a single color printed without issue.
  2. The prints in the middle and right were printed with two colors and you can see the gnarly issues on both the model and also the prime tower.

This has been a particularly reliable device - I’ve been pretty rigorous with maintenance but it’s at about 2,400 hours. What I’ve tried so far (without success):

  • Drying all filament in AMS HT using the default settings for PLA (45˚ for 12 hours).
  • Using alternate rolls of filaments and alternate finishes (Bambu PLA Basic, Wood, Translucent, Matte, CF using the Bambu profiles). I also printed with these rolls on another device to confirm that there were no issues.
  • Swapping both nozzles (one at a time) to nozzles that are confirmed to print without issues on other devices.
  • Ran high precision nozzle offset calibration and calibration cycles with the vision encoder.
  • Checked the nozzle blocker to ensure that it’s not bent. It isn’t perfectly level but I would say it’s within the range of shapes I’ve seen on other devices that print with no issues.
  • Firmware is up-to-date.
  • Printed the same part on another multi-color/multi-nozzle device without issues.

As a test, I printed this part using multiple colors but with a single nozzle & purge. The part printed well (as can be seen below) without the issues I’m seeing when using multiple nozzles. Even the prime tower is cleaner which feels like a clue.

Unfortunately, I cannot pinpoint a specific time when this issue began as I’ve been using this device for single-color prints for some time. For reference, here’s an image of the toolhead - you may notice that I’ve installed the TPU High Flow kit but this issue was present before and after the installation of that kit.

Anyway, if you have any ideas, I’d appreciate any advice!

Have you tried different nozzles in this machine ?

rather than just swapping these ? to other machines , (typo ?to nozzles that and ?)

My wording was really confusing there - I’ve edited it for clarity. Yes, I can confirm that I’ve tried alternate nozzles and also confirmed that each of the nozzles (the originals and the alternates) print without issues on other devices.

Yeah I’ve run through those steps & agreed that it was a logical possibility as the source of the issue initially. My results from the high precision calibration looks accurate/sharp as well.

In looking at the failed prints, though, it appears as though it’s not that the offset is incorrect but that there are some blobs or stringing introduced?

I understand the tower results are expected with the h2d , are the filaments the same type ? are you using a unsupported profile ? personal profiles (filament) appear to be constantly been moved there , especially on other printers , even though they appear to remain in the 3mf

In these tests I’m using the Bambu profiles and testing the same rolls of filament in other devices (using the same profiles) and can confirm that they print without issues on other devices

I recently had a model with a custom bambu lab filament profile for tpu 95a , i found its profile was unsupported and had been removed , it came from another printer , once i changed it back to its default it was back on the supported list within studio . so i thought it was worth asking

Have you tried to print it in single color with the Green and Orange color of the right 2 samples?

In other words, how do those materials print on their own?

Yeah, I was able to test that and can confirm that both of those rolls of filament can be used to print the part cleanly when using a single nozzle. It was good to test, though!

Thanks for this idea - it was good to check. I was able to confirm that I’m using supported Bambu presets in this case but I’ll be on the lookout for this in the future.

Is the weird behavior linked to a specific nozzle then? Left vs Right?
It almost seems like the filament profiles are different. The hairy tower is a behavior that occurs when 2 different types of filaments are mixed (ie. Pla vs Petg (for support)).

In your single nozzle test, it has a clean tower, assuming that both filaments are of the same type. Are you sure Bambu Studio is not confused about the filaments used?

I’m fairly confident that the profiles are correct. All filaments are PLA and I can print (using the same file, filament rolls and profiles) on a different device without issues.

Both nozzles print well individually in single or multiple colors. The issue only appears within prints that utilize both nozzles on this particular device.

This sounds to me as a bug in Bambu Studio and not so much a Hardware failure.

I would report an issue on this at support.
