So I am suddenly noticing these little spikes, basically everywhere there is a retraction, and some of them even stick out from lower layers.
I’ve tried 4 different brands of filament. Bambu brand seems to be the only one not doing this (model in black)
I’ve tried chancing z hop types, increasing and decreasing both retraction length and speed. Adjusting flow, pressure advance.
The filament is all dried to the point where it is no longer losing weight in water, and this is just regular PLA. It’s pretty dry in my apartment, and i’m running it from an enclosed AMS or straight out of a dryer.
WHAT am I missing here? What setting is causing this that the bambu filament can handle, but elegoo, sunlu and marswork cannot?
what are the settings in use on the pictures shown? The lavender one looks like zhop straight up with no wipe or retract which… yeah garbage in garbage out
Same settings stock bambu uses. Looks like:
z hope distance 0.4mm, I have tried it set on type normal and spiral.
wipe distance 2.0.
Reason its the same as I don’t have anything in there for z hop with PLA, so it uses the standard extruder settings which always seemed to work. I don’t recall this being a problem the last 500 hours of prints, maybe I never noticed it until this piece.
That one guy did an in depth video on z hop, his final thought were to pretty much always turn it off, I haven’t tried that yet
Same thing here, everything fine but the last little gap fill retractions I get these:
I’de love to compare. Can someone do this print off makerworld:
(just typein a1 extruder and u will see it) and just do the skull part, it’s not a very long print and let me see your surface!
interesting… I turned “wipe when retract” to 0 and the spikes aren’t there.
It sorta makes sense if you look at the image. I had to hold a piece of filament in my fingers and pretend I’m an extruder again.
So it squirts down some filament, sucks it up before moving BUT, instead of sucking it up then moving, its wiping while doing this, so the filament sticks and creates a spike on the way.
I was thinking… perhaps more retraction speed? I know its not length because I tried going all the way up to triple the distance and it actually made it progressively worse somehow.
What problems will this cause down the road? It’s set as default for all filaments in bambu studio to 2mm, and in the extruder settings.
