Review bombing

You should still rate it according to your own experience, not according to others’. Provide enough description of what happened, and even better a photo, to show the defects.

Another way to do it is to ask the designer a question describing the problem(s) that you ran into before giving a rating,

It’s possible that the designer can help you to identify where the problem may arise and help you to get a good print.

The fact that there have been good ratings doesn’t mean the print profile doesn’t have issues. You could be the first one to run into it and bother to report it. In some cases, the good ratings can be fake.

As long as a user prints it, and their bad rating doesn’t sink the overall rating to lower than 4, you as the model / profile creator, gets reward points from the print. I doubt a user will go this extra mile to give more reward points to somone they want to punish

This does assume the model has garnered multiple ratings already.

The unfortunate situation your solution doesn’t account for is if the model is new or has yet to receive any or just one or two ratings.

A bad rating here will remove any potential points.

More importantly, a negative score will stop people from printing the model as they will not know the review was malicious.

I did account for that situation. The user will have to gamble that their rating will scare everyone else from printing, and be the only rating. The designer can reply to the rating asking for more details, and provide answers to assure other users.

I always ask before reporting one.

I usually give them a week to respond.

I think you misunderstand the purpose of ratings. They are to inform other users. Comments are for other users to asses the quality of the model/print. This whole idea that only 4 or 5 star reviews be allowed is rather counter productive as it will only give positive reviews and silence any criticisms.

No, you’re wrong.
In fact, rating print profiles is not intended to rate the model. Print profiles are often not even created by the designer.
You can express your reception of the design(=model) by clicking or not clicking the “Like” button. When evaluating the print profile, only the quality of this profile should be evaluated.

Irritatingly MW offers does not offer any way to rate models.

The only rating system is for the printability of the print profile.

You can easily determine this fact two ways:

  1. You select the profile you are rating as you can rate individual profiles.
  2. When rating with 3 or less stars you will see buttons indicating the type of problem experienced when using the profile.

I think MW could and should do more to make the rating system clearer for the user to understand WHAT they are rating and WHAT constitutes an actual rating.

The like button is meant to be the way to rate a model except it has two usage floors.

  1. Many people use it as a bookmark rather than to show a like.
  2. It lacks a negative operation to show dissatisfaction.

The rating system as a whole is a mess as the messaging to the user is mismatched from what MW uses it for.

A 3-star profile review is shown as ‘average’ when the review is placed, but MW considers a 3-star rating as something unworthy of providing points as it requires 4 or higher.

A single 3-star review can cause new or a less-popular model to fail as users see it and move on.

I’ve said this many times before…

Without enforcing the need to provide details of the problem and a photo there is no opportunity to help the user when the problem is often something they can fix at their end or help the profile creator identify an issue they were not aware of.

Or you misunderstood my post  , which encouraged you to rate the model based on your bad experience, be it a 3 star or 1 star. You can still rate it today even if the bad experience happened a while ago. Who said or where did it say only 4 or 5-star reviews are allowed?

Actually it’s you that has a misunderstanding of ratings. Ratings have nothing to do with the model, you can’t actually rate the models currently. Ratings are for the print profiles and print profiles alone. You can comment/review the models, but the actual star ratings are completely separate.

I wouldn’t worry too much about 1 bad apple.
Generally most intelligent people ignore this if all the other ratings are above average & tend to make up their own minds anyway, which ever way that might be.
Keep doing food stuff :+1:

In my opinion, @MakerWorld shouldn’t withhold the model’s points if the review is under 4 star avg. This makes it easy for someone with lots of friends/followers/etc to leave negative reviews if they don’t like your model. Then, not only do you not receive points until the reviews are removed, but you manually have to report each one. If the profile is truly horrible, people won’t print it and thus no points to the profile owner.
