RFID reading drying settings, how?

So I insert a Bambu filament, it reads the RFID correctly as it shows up in the software.

I am using this as the only AMS/filament right now in a P1S.

Now if I want to dry it, I can only see options on the printer display for manual drying? Doesn’t it/can’t it read this information via RFID? Not a biggie, it’s Bambu PC so I choose the PC preset.

Also, I then have to unload the filament, correct, so then it shows as Empty in the software, and only then can I do the drying (with rotation)?

So if drying is manual, there is no point loading the filament in the first place in order to read the RFID tag, I may aswell just put it in, do the drying and then load it when it’s dried?

Is that the correct workflow, apologies, the Wiki page isn’t really very useful.

I suppose what I was anticipating was placing the spool in the AMS HT (but not actually loading it) then maybe rotating it a few times so it reads the tag or something, this would then register it and then when I go to the printer display it would know what was and have chosen or indicated that it’s ready to dry.

In the store, it does say “AMS HT uses RFID to auto-match drying settings for Bambu official filaments, no manual input needed”, I just haven’t figure out how.

Same here, I though it would just be able to rotate the spool until it reads the RFID tag. I guess the only way it works now is if you leave the filament loaded.

But even then it doesn’t seem to show any automated drying settings, as advertised.

glad I’m not the only one seeing this. I’ve got some Bambu 85A TPU, which you can’t load the normal way, which means it’s not reading the RFID tag, which means I have to select the Generic TPU drying options.

AMS HT is a very frustrating experience, first you need to buy separatly power cable and buffer, than i recognize i need tube coupler, than after all back and forth the automatic reading function only works in some very special conditions. I should have bought creality or something like this for 1/3 of the price with the same function. Bambu, please make it 200EUR but all in one box and all working, than this semi finished solution, such a terrible experience..

Do you mean the AMS 2 Pro? The AMS HT comes with a power cable.

As @PrinterMcgee said, AMS HT have no power adapter since it’s built in, AMS2 Pro might need it.

Just rechecked, on both my machines it does auto detect drying presets for Bambu Lab filaments.

Hi, AMS HT on P1S detecs filament only for printing, for drying i have to chose options in the menu of P1S manually!

AMS HT is first for drying and second for printing. Because you can not dry and print at the same time, it acts more or less like a box with a dessicant, thus the fact that it can detect fillament for printing is nice, but not super usefull. For drying however, where it matters the most, the filmanet detections does not work nor automatically, nor in the menu of P1S nor in the Bambu Studio. Maybe somehow it is possible via app, but I do not think this is very intuitive, ideally it should work via printer

In order to have the RFiD tag read, you must load the filament.

if you want to dry it, you want the spool to rotate while drying, especially on the Ams ht where it is a lot hotter near the vents.

if you want the spool to rotate while drying, you can’t have the filament loaded.

some filament you can’t even load (tpu) or the software will tell you you can’t use, (most cf filaments.)

so you have to manually enter the drying filament type and or parameters

so for drying, the rfid tag is not useful

From what you wrote, there are a few important points that are not quite correct. If the filament is loaded when you start drying and then you unload it, the printer will automatically use the preset drying temperature and time from the tag, and you can still choose to rotate the spool. You can also load TPU in the AMS HT by using the bypass, and you can even dry while printing as long as you do not enable spool rotation. That is exactly how TPU and PEBA from 65A up to 95A are run here, and it works without any issues, and that is with six AMS and four AMS HT units, so there is a pretty good idea here of what they can and cannot do.

Even today after many updates. On P1S printer i can not start remote drying. It is only possible via P1S menu. "@L0rdS474n to your question. When AMS HT connected to printer in this menu i have to manually select filament type (PETG, ABS and so on), the printer does not recoginese it.

@Bambu team please kindly add remote filmanet drying to P1S printer. Also it would be great that printer iteslef could recongnize filament. Currently i can only use filmanet recongnition featerure in the Bambu Studio, however from there i can not start drying only printing.

Why is this feture availbe on P2S and H2 series printers and not on P1? I understand it is a cheaper printer. But why would I want to update to a better one when i know that after a new printer relased old printer support will be abondent, like P1 today.

Sounds like your AMS HT may be defective.

I have an AMS 2 Pro with the same kind of reliability issue: it cannot detect filament in slots 1 and 2. Bambu Lab has so far refused to resolve the actual problem. Instead, they keep sending one replacement part at a time while claiming each part will fix it.

So far, none of their proposed fixes has worked.
