Within the past few weeks, I am starting to see these ripples in the top surface of prints with wide flat top surfaces. I took ChatGPT’s hand and jumped down the rabbit hole but have had no luck tracing the problem, thus far. This occurs on 2 of my P1Ps but not on my P1S. One of these examples is a tall print and the other is a very short print.
Details:
- All machines are freshly calibrated
- Tuned filament profile/reliable filament
- All 3 machines sit on a concrete block w/ a 3/8" layer of medium-density foam sandwiched underneath. Ikea Lack tables w/ reinforced legs (1 printer per table)
- Top surface speed slowed
- Gantry belt re-tensioned per Bambu Lab instructions
- Z-rods cleaned and greased
- Both P1Ps under 1300hrs and P1S @ 3000hrs
- All machines on same firmware version
- Same print/filament profiles across the board that worked just fine before this issue started
Assuming the spot doesn’t move if you model is repositioned, it’s dead center in the middle of the print. This is a temperature problem, not a mechanical problem.
What does the underside look like? Supports?
Have you re-sliced since the last time it printed good? Updated FW? Slicer?

There is an internal bridge layer 5 layers down from the top surface. Below that is several layers of gyroid infill @ 9%. I’ve been trying to time a print so I can watch between the bridge and the top layer to catch any possible bridging issues that may be translating through the layers.
I’ve been running 1.07.00.00 FW on all my machines for over a year now. I did update to Orcaslicer 2.3.1 from 2.1.1 about a month ago. I could try running one of these prints on 2.1.1 and see if the results are similar.
Temperature/cooling settings on my printers/filament have been the same for years now.

I can confirm that moving locations on the print bed does not resolve the issue. There is a noticeable reducing in the ripples but they are still obvious. I can see that all layers between the bridge and top layer print flawlessly. The ripples are only in the topmost layer.
It could be something with the fan causing it not to align correctly, or your filament probably isn’t dry.
Yeah, but the temperature in the room where the printer is located changes.

Yes, the seasonal change has dropped the room temperature by 1°. To compensate, I dropped the fan speed to 50% and increased the nozzle temp by 5° (225°). This would explain why the P1S has no problem but the P1Ps are struggling. Unfortunately, my fan and nozzle temp adjustments yielded the same results.
My printer is against an exterior wall and my house has baseboard heat. Now that it’s colder outside, the temperature in the middle of the room is lower, too. But at the wall, when the heat is running, it is significantly hotter than during the summer months.

Confirmed it today. I ran a test print in the middle of the day and it came out flawless on both P1Ps. Daytime temperatures today are seasonally high for my region, whereas yesterday evening was quite low. Looks like I’ll be putting together a DIY foamboard enclosure.
