Keep in mind the human, the majority of the slop is coming out of random people’s desktops that they are copy pasting from Gemini or whatever. If they didn’t have ai they’d use the next best tool, and forever that was “Photoshop” but now it’s ai.
I use that, but it shouldn’t be on the individual users to have to go through this. If they could have a user policy that states that all models should be made by individual users not by ai, and any user found to be submitting ai models will be banned (maybe have a cool down for the first offence, then permanent ban after a second offence). Then give a reporting tool to people who spot them, along with some algorithmic flagging and you’d have a situation which would at least be better than it currently is. Imo having no stance against ai slop is worse than what I’ve proposed here as there’s nothing but people complaining to occasionally take these models down and stopping them flooding the platform

The amount of people using AI generated pictures to promote their “model” is ridiculous. It’s also been an issue with HueForges since the beginning where people try to present the source picture as representative of the printed end result (it isn’t) .
Personally, I only post pictures of the actual printed model on my uploads and think that it should be mandatory that cover photos are of the actual printed object.
It’s basic rendering, yes. But it’s good enough to see the actual detail in models, when the “cover image” shows them fully painted and it’s not obvious most of the detail doesn’t actually exist. Either because it’s an outright fabrication (most AI images are like these) or it’s a texture on top of a 3D model (some blender covers are like this, but can happen even when people post painted figurines and they’re good painters).
3D preview should be automatically produced from the models provided and included as static images, as well as the interactive one.
IIRC, it used to be like that way back when.
Thingiverse and Printables still does this natively, and it’s a great boon
