Hi all! Hope you can help.
Here is a file for a mini I have printed.
and it does print when I use a 0.4mm nozzle
But when I try and use a 0.2mm nozzle (same file just different nozzle) the supports fail with then down arm

Its happened twice now same fail so its not just a one time thing.
If anyone knows how I can upload the video please let me know.
Any thoughts?
Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you, but I would like to point out that the support for the arm is closer to the base during the 0.4 print than it is with the 0.2 print…a lot closer.
I’m not an expert by any means - I only just got a printer two weeks ago - but the questions that pop into my mind are:
- Did you run a full calibration after swapping nozzles?
- Have you checked the line width to make sure it’s been adjusted for the smaller nozzle?

Yes I do a full calibration after switching a nozzle.
I will definitely look at the base of the support for the 0.2mm print. Maybe ill do another print but with the camera pointed towards that area?
Does the support move?
As a test, you can slice the model with a .2mm nozzle configured and do same with the .4mm nozzle. That will tell you what the differences in the support are between the two nozzles. Nice part about that is you don’t need to run the print. You should be able to visually see the difference.
There is always the option to change the type of support and slice to see results of Normal vs Tree.
You can maybe play around with the Support Paint tool and increase or decrease the amount of support. With that tool you can see what Studio thinks needs support by looking through the plate because Studio will draw a checked pattern on the model. You can increase/decrease the amount and area to support.

Did you dry the filament? That can help counter curling which in turn causes “island” prints to wobble and fail on supports.
Thanks mate. The filament was lets say ‘half dry’ as in a 3 on the bambu program. But it was the same dryness with the 0.2mm print. So that can be a difference?

The support on the downward arm seems to be similar, although i definitely just noticed it did add a support in front of his front leg on the 0.2mm file. I learnt something new! I really would have thought that the supports would be the same, just a slower and finer print. Even the supports on the back on the bottom of the coat are different as well.
The 0.4mm does have a nice white line in the 0.4mm not sure if that has anything to do.
I will play around a bit more. More reading around manual supports i think.

The white line is the seam. It is beneficial to change the view to Line Type instead of Filament.
All the settings are color coded when Line Type is selected so you can see the inner walls, outer walls, infill, etc.

The items I have enclosed in the blue square are unchecked by default in Line Type but I turn them on with the exception of Travel
Travel is sometimes beneficial in that if your sliced model shows Travel making a lot of passes over the top of the printing model, I look at every pass over the model as a chance for the nozzle tip to hit the model. If there is a blob of filament that has oozed out of the nozzle then it rockets across the model at high speed that blob of plastic can kill your model.
