I would like to be able to take a screenshot in the Prepare and Preview tabs.
More specifically, a screenshot of the preview areas in Preview and Prepare.
A screen grab feature added to Studio will almost certainly be less capable than the many options already available or built-in to your operating system, and which can be used with all your applications.
The Windows built-in Snipping Tool is very capable. Assigning it to the Print Screen button makes it very convenient.
I prefer to use Greenshot which offers even more options, including automatically saving the image, or opening it another editor of my choice.
I’m sure Mac and Linux have similar tools.
Coming from Rhino3D, I really like the ability to take a screenshot of the preview area without going outside the software.
I find there are fewer clicks involved and no other encumbrances from external software being used. There are only a few options available for the “captured” image (e.g., transparent background, resolution, whether to save it as a file [which would automatically go to the same place the 3D model is being stored] or save to the clipboard, etc.), but these are all I need.
Many pieces of software can duplicate the capabilities of many other pieces of software, but having something that knows that I want only the preview window to be saved as an image and reducing the number of clicks of the mouse to get just this is something I like.
Another example is OneNote: I can certainly get an image into OneNote in a variety of different ways using software outside of OneNote, but when I get a screenshot straight from OneNote, it knows that I want that image placed where my cursor is in the software and it also indicates the date and time that the screenshot was made. This is the information I want and I do not want to fiddle with other software to get this information onto the screenshot and then get the screenshot into OneNote.
None of this is necessary, and if I need greater capabilities, the Windows Snipping Tool is ready for me.
A few steps fewer and getting what I want in the image without having to later crop the image to get only the image and getting and placing the text I want in the image without covering any part of the image, well, that is something I would like to make stuff a little bit easier for my workflow.
