Seamless backgrounds for signs?

What is the secret to make the Bambu Studio slicer stop interrupting the travel from edge to edge of the top level of a sign background, prior to the levels above that contain the letters themselves? The top level of the sign’s background never goes from edge to edge. Instead, the slicer adds some useless jabberwocky where the letters will be placed in the levels above. This means the print head is not going to move in the same uninterrupted pattern for the sign background’s topmost layer, and then you end up with visible interruptions in the sign’s background, especially if you use a shiny filament. Why can’t the slicer simply create this layer just like it created the first layer on the print bed, where it traces the outline of the sign’s perimeter, and then fills in the inside of that from edge to edge, completely, line after line, with no interruptions, and then on the next layer start laying down the letters of the sign on top of that? This is crazy, and I have found no good way around this in Bambu Lab with the settings. Since Bambu Lab MakerLab has a Make My Sign lab, it would be nice to print those signs so they turn out looking nice.

Here’s an example…the noticeable diagonal lines are when the printing stops because it’s printing around the anticipated letters that are coming on the next level, and then it goes back and fills in the missed areas.

Try turning off “Only one wall on top surfaces”.

What is wrong with the working solution in the other thread you already asked about this ?

It doesn’t work. I have tried all the “solutions”, and none fix the issue completely. Even the solution hack I came up with only works with text, and not with text combined with an arrow on top.

What we really need is a holistic explanation of why the slicer puts the printer through all these unnecessary gyrations in the first place. There should be a simple checkbox to force the slicer to create a nice smooth background surface on which text can be printed.

It helps, but does not work when there is a combination of text and an arrow being printed on top of the sign background.

I changed a couple settings from your illustration of my previous example breaking when adding a box on top.

Now with your added box it seems to work again but it adds wall loops around the perimeter (probably as before also). I don’t like the weird layer layer behavior (NtoN, N-.1toN, N-.1toN+.1 are all different) and why increasing wall loops act this way at all is a mystery. The wall loop increase doesn’t need to be a big number, +1 or +2 seems fine. This method is the easiest to set up.

Here is one with a modifier that changes the problem layer to solid and does not add an extra wall loop. It’s a little more fiddly adding and moving the modifier, but it’s probably a cleaner solution. The modifier is probably too thick, you could reduce it to one layer.

I’m not sure if you’re just reading past what I previously explained, but again I’ll attempt to explain. What matters is the artifacts hidden undeneath the text and arrow, which are not shown in the screengrabs you posted. You have to go down to the topmost layers of the sign background, and see if there are any artifacts on the 2 layers underneath the words or the arrow. If there are artifacts there, then those layers won’t be laid out in one continuous flow with the printhead working from one corner of the sign to the opposite corner. Instead, the printhead will fill in the sign body until it hits an artifact, then work around the artifact, leaving visible pattern differences with shiny filaments. Even though the entire layer is laid down in the same diagonal direction, it is filled in section by section around the artifacts, leaving visible lines that affect the smoothness of the layer above, like this:

The arrow-shaped artifact on layer 20 (which is hidden undeneath the arrow on layer 21) causes the print head to not lay down layer 20 in one go from corner to corner. The slicer fills in the layer smoothly until it encounters the arrow artifact, then fills in by sections around that artifact. With the glossy silver filament I am using, this creates noticeable lines due to the filament head filling in filament from the opposite direction until that section is complete, with seams meeting in the central portion of the sign, rather than working from one corner of the sign to the other.

This looks kinda overextruded.

You clearly failed to check my images…
The first is with a solid top layer and the text on top…
No artefacts possible.
Second is the text as just infill and with NO walls around, neither for the text, nor the infill around it.
Just two examples of what is possible.
I can explain both ways and a few other to you if you want…

Now you are speaking an untruth, because I saw both of your images, and both showed text on them, which are therefore irrelevant because they hide any artifacts directly below the text and arrow, which are they problem described in the OP. To address the OP, you would have had to show the layer directly underneath the text to demonstrate there were no artifacts there from the slicer. I’m done trying to get you to understand. If I provide images showing a clean based below text AND arrow than that is fact.
Sorry but if you prefer to be stubborn and ignore good advise seek it elsewhere.
You wanted a complete infill below the text and arrow without artefacts and I provided just that.
Seems you need to learn a lot more than how to use a slicer…
If I give you the layer below without the text as an image then how the heck do you know there is text to follow?
Would have given you the 3MF files to check and see the settings used by I won’t bother any longer bothering you with unwanted advise.

Make them 2 objects and set slicing parameters separately.
Could be the letters are somehow in the base plate hence the slicing stops.
Make sure the letters are on the surface of the base.

I am interested in seeing the head movement in layer 20. Just looking at the completed layer as per your image, it looks like the lines are smooth and unbroken. Maybe a picture from partway through the layer would show how’s the lines around the arrow are being broken up

Download the arrowtest .3mf file in my post above with all the screenshots. It’s after the first picture. Slice it and trace the toolhead movement on a layer with the separte arrow-shaped filled-in area.

This worked for me. Setting ‘Only one wall on top surfaces’ to ‘Not defined’ results in layers 19 and 20 both being sliced as full-layer monotonic lines, which is what you are looking for I think.

Did you try whether there is any effect when changing the infill pattern? Your pattern is aligned with the lines in the layer above. Maybe the slicer algorithm tries to optimize something that then leads to some kind of numerical inference? Not sure why, but could be useful to test.
