I am having an issue in Bambu Studio 2.2.0.85 with my H2D and I’m trying to find a solution.
I currently have an AMS HT on the Left nozzle (high flow), and an AMS 2 Pro on the Right nozzle (high flow). The Left nozzle has White ABS and the Right nozzle has Black ABS.
I use the same print settings for both colors, and my workflow when I used my P1S printer was to click Slice plate → Print plate → Select the filament color/AMS slot that I want to use.
The H2D seems to have changed this, and I can no longer select the filament of the same type that I want to use. As you can see below, Bambu Studio detects the ABS in the Left and Right nozzle, but I cannot select the filament I want to use at the time of printing.
You assign the correct filament to your parts. In the left of your image I see 2 filaments, 1 is white ABS and 2 is black ABS. All your benchy’s have been assigned to filament 2. If you assign them to 1 you will get white ones.
I understand, but is there a workaround?
On the P1S I only needed 1 filament on the left hand side, and at the time of slicing/printing I could select the filament to use.
I often do prints with like 20+ pieces and having to use the left side to manually change filament assignments on the H2D is more unnecessary steps.
you should be able to select the filaments at that time still… I’ve only ever used H2D with BS 2.x, and this is the default behavior for me, but mb Filament Grouping is still on one of the auto-modes. however, you can change the filament allocation type to “custom mode” instead of automatic, that may be what you’re encountering… but if you only have 2 filaments on each side, or rather 1 on the left, I don’t see what’s going. Perhaps I don’t understand your problem. To bring up the grouping popup, which drives me insane, hover over part of the bar around the Slice Plate button (on macOS)… I wish it had it’s own button, I’m CONSTANTLY triggering it, very annoying, even when already in preview mode…
Then, when you hit Slice, it should give you the other popup where you see the nozzle assignment for the filaments, and you can DRAG&DROP, or click the swap button in the middle.
Even in Custom Mode I cannot get the filaments to appear in the Left and Right nozzle.
I’m not running multi-color prints - I print dissimilar colors in separate nozzles to avoid bits of the previous color getting stuck in subsequent prints. It’s pretty bad going from black to white because tiny particles of black filament that are clinging to the nozzle ruin the white filament prints.
The gcode for left or right extruder is different, so I guess you might be able to select a different filament, as long as it’s assigned to the same extruder. That is basically what you did on the on your other printer.
Additionally the X-limits of the 2 extruders is different, so what might print on one extruder, doesn’t always print on the other.
Using custom mode it will ask you which nozzles to use. just select and drag it to which one you choose. The default setting doesn’t allow you to do this. You need to select the nozzle before slicing, once you slice it locks them in, then your only choice is to choose which AMS slot on that nozzle.
OK, that makes a little more sense.
I can manually regroup one filament to the other nozzle…some of the confusion on my end was that the filament grouping window doesn’t update with the actual filament color that the AMS scanned the RFID of.
You and me both. The Filament color selection needs more information and more colors to choose from on the printer menu since the studio can’t update the printer what actual color is in the AMS and make things a PITA when painting. For instance, I have 2 colors of red, one light, one dark, both are the same color according to the AMS. What about spools of multicolor or transparent?
I’m glad between the three of us we were able to help! I agree it’s not only confusing, each place you deal with this stuff it has different quirks & challenges… I wish all the panes were more streamlined so it felt like we knew what was gonna happen more… I agree with @ACDII as well… I feed to my left nozzle currently with a Creality Space Pi X4, also it hardly matters since the external spool fails to ID most bambu filaments… it’s elevated on a shelf with a more or less direct line at a slight angle. The AMS2Pro just sits on the top glass… so, like the ACDII said… it happened TODAY that I had two colors showing up one way on the printer, another way in the software… low and behold, I used the incorrect filament as support material because of this software color selection mismatch, and guess what… it’s totally both glued into place on the Z in a recessed overhang… like ACDII suggests, yes, one of these was transparent (represented on front panel with a classic color over checkerboard style), one was solid, but both showed as gray on the computer in Studio 2.2! I’m finding multifilament printing in the same project rather maddening at this point… like the bug where I sync, then add a custom color, and then all but color #1 becomes ABS… ahem… and guess what… UNDO doesn’t work with certain functions… so, literally destructive… I could quit and not save I think if there aren’t any other changes to be lost… but that’s usually not the case…
