"Sensitive Information"?

Could someone from Bambu and/or MakerWorld please explain to me why we can no longer list the filaments used for a model as you are now classifying it as sensitive information? (unless it’s Bambu of course lol)

In the case of some designs, this is vital information, but the simple mention of Sunlu or any other brand of filaments now gets an instant rejection when uploading a new model.

Well, id say it should be allowed but model should just receive reduced points.

Reduce the rewards for saying that you print with filament that is not from Bambulab? awesome.

@TheBreadman are you being serious? Where does that end? If you don’t use Bambu branded lube to maintain your printer do you get penalised for that as well?
There are some filaments that Bambu simply don’t make (well… they don’t actually make any of them), and when it comes to things like LIthographs and HueForges, the TD of the filament is vitally important to get right. If a model is designed for a white filament with a TD of 7.6 for example (Sunlu Meta) and you substitute Bambu Jade White you’ll end up with a print that loses a lot of detail and looks washed out and over bright.

Does your model not print with Bambu branded lube too lol? then maybe, yes. :] lucky i don’t print any models needing lubing :]

Nothing personal, am serious. Thing is Makerworld is business not charity, and mostly funded by filament sales.

However the route, allowing competitor only printable models, will always end up with reduced rewards one way or other.

And I like SunLu, but id never expect to get rewards if my model was only compatible with that.

It’s very good that you speak on behalf of yourself, in what regards your rewards expectations from Bambu… if that’s what you think you deserve, that’s what you get from Bambu anyway (most of the times even less) … However, don’t try speaking on behalf of the other makers. They can do it by themselves if they feel the need to.

@drakko This has absolutely nothing to do with any “rewards”, nor at any point have I tried “speaking on behalf of others”.
Back in April MW decided to start auto re-slicing all v1 print profiles to v2. They did this without any warning and with zero error checking. This resulted in thousands of damaged print profiles that wouldn’t print correctly due to missing supports, conflicting prime towers etc. I was one of the first people to bring this to their attention, and until that point they hadn’t realised the issues they were causing. They admitted it was a bad idea and stopped that process quite rapidly. What they didn’t do was to reinstate the original undamaged profiles that they had destroyed through lack of communication and error checking. This left the designers affected with two choices - remove the previously working models completely or spend a very long time re-slicing correctly every model they had ever uploaded.
The above is just one example of a situation that was entirely caused by lack of communication and poor critical thinking. Bambu & MW don’t always get everything right, so let’s not pretend they do - especially when they’ve already admitted the same. This is another example of poor or non-existent communication unless you’d like to show me somewhere that they state you shouldn’t be using filament from other companies.

Trust me when I say ( or if you don’t, check my posts at least since January 16th) that I’m one of the most vocal critics of Bambu when it comes to a number of bad things they’ve did (and keep doing) in terms of firmware and software, as well as the changes they’ve done to MW. Actually, I’ve been banned several times, next to a few select others, because of this criticism. So, I do know what you’re talking about.

What exactly was the writing that was rejected?

Sunlu, as well as some other filament brands are included in the filament system in Bambu Studio. Forum discussions of non-Bambu filaments are not rejected. The simple mention of Sunlu or a brand of filament is unlikely the reason for the rejection.

Take this with a grain of salt, but others say that if your makerworld post has the literal string “sunlu” in it, it is flagged

We will need to see the whole writing that was rejected to make our own judgement.

I just uploaded a stl (not 3mf) to makerworld from a burner account

It was just some garbage unprintable piece of a larger design.

It had the string “sunlu” and “SunLu” in the body of the description

It got published, even being a 5 minute old accoutn lol

Enjoy my garbage SEO bait, users!

So you just proved that the string “Sunlu” alone won’t be the reason for the rejection.

@DWdesigns the writing that was rejected was at the end of my description of an uploaded model. When I upload a HueForge I always list the exact filament used (brand and colour), its relevant TD and the layer that colour changes take place.
The exact words that were rejected were “Sunlu” & “Deeplee” in my case, others have reported encountering the same with multiple other brands but Polymaker for some reason seems still to be allowed.
I’m glad you raised the point about Sunlu and others already having filament profiles within Studio, that had crossed my mind as well and I have to wonder when they’ll be removing them plus removing the ability to create custom filament profiles and only allowing Bambu filament to be printed.
It all sounds a bit “tin foil hat”, but it certainly feels like that’s the way we are heading.
If Bambu and MW expect us to follow the rules it would be nice to know what those rules actually are because at present “Sensitive Information” is not defined anywhere.

These two words were specifically marked by MW as rejected? That was odd. I have seen rejections from others before. It’s a note not specifically pointing to any words in a description.

Do you still have a copy of the whole description when it was rejected?

No, it simply comes up with a message saying that it contains “Sensitive Information”. Altering the two offending words (brands) fixes the issue instantly.

science is repeatable you should do it too

I don’t have a burner account to test : ) . While you are still here on this thread, can you do us a favor by editing your test upload to have the two strings “sunlu” and “deeplee” and see if it gets rejected? I am quite curious about this case now. People should be able to list whatever filaments they used and I don’t see a reason that MW will discourage that.

Remember that this kind of risk-flagging is done by system, not by a human actually reading the descriptions. The system can make mistakes, and MW could have tuned the system to err on the side of overflagging than underflagging.

Have you sent in a ticket for MW to look at? It can help them to improve the risk-flagging. I don’t think MW is actively preventing designers and users from writing about other filament brands. One example is that they took the trouble to create print profiles for other brands to make it easier for users to use these non-Bambu brands.
