Bambu’s limitations are really starting to get annoying. You can set the default settings, but please allow us to make the changes we want.
When the cabin temperature rises, the upper ventilation cover doesn’t close completely, and unpleasant odors from ABS, ASA, and other materials start to leak out. Even if we manage to keep the cover closed somehow, you still smell the odor. Give us a break and let the ventilation systems we’ve installed do their job. Even in P1S, I can’t open the exhaust fan in ABS and ASA presses like I can in H2D. Even if I open it slightly, I could get most of the smell out, but how is that possible? I should be able to do this, even if it means losing some heat.
Enough with your restrictions. Set your default settings, write the necessary warnings, and then leave us alone!
I don’t want to just close it off; I want to completely expel it from the room using the ventilation I installed on the exhaust. But that’s not the main issue. The main issue is Bambu constantly restricting us. They should let people be comfortable and manage the machines as they see fit.
The problem is if you turn on the chamber fan, the small heater wont have a chance of keeping the temp anywhere near 60c, especially since the chamber fan is right beside it.
So might as well turn off the chamber heating in filament profile, and then you can have your chamber fan on if thats what you want to do. That will most likely cause warping from the cold air being sucked in. So bambu are just preventing you from doing something counter productive.
I believe they’ve implemented certain restrictions to avoid unpredictable issues that their support team would struggle to troubleshoot.
For example, if you’re printing ASA, ABS, or even POM and enable any airflow through the chamber, you’ll likely experience warping almost immediately—depending on your setup, of course. It would be difficult for support to determine what’s really happening on each customer’s printer in such cases.
Activating the cooling system while the printer is still heating is also somewhat counterintuitive. In my setup, I can extract air during heating, but even a slight increase in airflow prevents the chamber from ever reaching 65 °C. You can imagine the range of problems this could cause for less experienced users—and ultimately for Bambu Lab’s support team in the long run.
The goal is not to activate the cooling system, but simply to get rid of the bad smell by providing a small amount of airflow. Even in my P1S without a heating chamber, I can press ABS and ASA without any problems at 40 degrees (except for very difficult models).
I already said that there is no harm in setting the default settings this way, or even putting warnings in place. Nevertheless, those who prefer to open the ventilation will probably not bother the support team when they experience problems.
Also, I am talking about a general situation. Let them stop restricting us. It is enough for them to set the default settings and put warnings in place.
They should warn you, but not stop you. Contrary to what you might think, a small amount of airflow based on the room temperature won’t be that effective. But whatever happens, they should leave this decision to me.
As I said a better way to deal with fumes is by making sure all of the holes like poop chute and belt tightening holes are sealed. Also if you put suction on the exhaust outlet, even when its closed, it will pull some air though the gaps if you want to create negative pressure inside the printer.
Or did I completely misunderstand you… and you just wanted to vent?
I don’t know how to explain it more clearly. I don’t recall asking for suggestions on how to prevent smoke from escaping. All I want is to be able to control the printer the way I want.

Their support team needs everything as simple as possible for them. I know it sucks, but this is the way bambu is going. Gen 3 will be 1 button click from only makerworld and no buttons on the printer lol. And only A.I. support
Easy support means they dont need much training = profit. This and they obvioisly dont think their customers can handle what most other companies offer(until they all follow). Andnalso cant figure out how to make a printer thats more open and user friendly at the same time.
Well, if you buy the Apple of printers, this is what you get.
I recently bought the H2D and I’m very well aware of what restrictions it will bring.
But I kept my Android of printers, my MK4S which allows me to configure and tweak absolutely everything.
I mean - Bambu is relatively open about their restrictions they put into their systems. At the same time Prusa is very open that they don’t. It’s ultimately a customer’s decision and I decided for both.
Update: Reading my post I might sound insane buying a Bambu printer. So the Apple of printers does has significant benefits as well, like dual nozzle and rather big build size for an affordable price, easy multi-material handling with AMS, painless hotend/nozzle change in seconds, and a few more.
The Android of printers also has many significant advantages over Bambu.
Anyway, of course I’d like Bambu’s innovations in an open system but again, Bambu never said they offer an open system. So I know I’ll have to live with the restrictions.
I hear complaints such as this from time to time. Not only with Bambu products but generally across many different products. Personally I am at loss as to how one might think that Bambu is constantly restricting us. I tend to see Bambu as having created products and an environment that has opened opportunities that had not previously existed.
Having come from a background in R&D I am well acquainted with the process of engineering design. Along the way all manner of decisions have to be made. Trade-offs of one method vs another and the like. There tends to be a lot of cost-benefit analyses. When the H2D was first released there were those who complained that one couldn’t print with each head printing with a different layer height. While such an operation may be possible, the complexity is drastically increased over having both heads printing with the same layer heights. The effort to create such a feature is not worth it when in all likelihood such a feature would be rarely used. Same as the issue of the capacity of only 4 AMS units. Does anyone print anything that uses16 different filaments in one object? It is very rare to find objects that print using more than 8 different filaments.
In this day and age products are required to comply with applicable safety and environmental laws. Plus one has to idiot proof one’s products. It seems that was the intent over the efforts that led to the blowup earlier this year. A fully loaded H2D has the potential to do great harm through incompetent and/or nefarious means. To combat this Bambu instituted a more robust security protocol which closed certain loopholes that some had been exploiting. It just may be that what you want to do has the potential to cause harm to the machine or to yourself and that is why you are prevented from doing it.
Eventually someone will jail break these printers and create an open source code so it can use any slicer and allow access to any component. Until then we just have to work with it or around it. As far as ventilation, you have a printer, make some sort of system to extract fumes away from the work area.
I am currently working on some sort of air exchanger system to bring in fresh air and expel the stale air while maintaining heating/cooling. Eventually hoods will be covering the machines and laser so that they get fresh air and expel the fumes from around the machines. Even with a powerful extractor, fumes still escape my laser.
