Bambu Studio keeps changing all my AMS filament settings every time I import something from makerworld. color filament type etc.
Then I have to reset everything back up. i can’t find the setting to keep it as i have set it. Im aware that i can import geometric data only but over the time its become annoying to do approach things different just to avoid user preset settings
Are you talking about the filaments on the device tab as these should not change from what is in actual AMS connected to the selected printer.
If you are talking about the prepare tab, this is normal and should be expected. This is not a bug.
You are loading a print profile with model(s) that includes the settings and filament choices made by the designer of the provider.
You can use the sync button to bring your AMS filaments to the prepare tab for models you have created.
I agree. Something changed in Studio where opening other models seems to silently pollute settings like line widths and such. I used to get warnings if settings were going to be overwritten but don’t see them now yet things still change.
Haven’t explored what all is affected like this or filed a ticket. I just have models with proper settings I open and then build 3mf files for whatever I’m working on. Sometimes it’s easier to find a workaround than spend time analyzing the underlying problem.
The problem comes from all those settings remaining being set after closing the model with the odd settings. I don’t know that that should be expected behavior but the workaround of opening a model with “stock” settings does fix it.
It is expected because it happens every time.
Should it happen is a separate thing.
The main failing here is the belief that Bambu Studio knows the difference between your models being prepared and those of others you have loaded. It does not have this logic, but it could have as the information is available to it.
If Bambu Studio made a differentiation between the logged in user who installed the software and any downloaded (or other sourced models) this could be resolved with very few lines of code.
For example, if I stand on a rack, it will swing up and smack me in the face, expected, but unwelcome.
The last saved iteration wins rule is also annoying (for those that enable multiple iterations). If I add a printer in one iteration and then accidentally save a different iteration, it removes the printer.
Those things are dumb and counter to quality software development (being a 35-year veteran myself).
If I add a printer or a filament type those are settings for the Bambu Studio and not the settings for the model being prepared and should not be seen as the the same level of things being stored.
My coding started on an Apple ][ many moons ago and I agree. And yeah, when software always does odd stuff it’s the definition of insanity to expect anything different.
