Settings for 0.8mm nozzle and 0.56 layer height

Hi, I’ve only printed using the 0.4mm nozzle until now and I just ordered a 0.8mm nozzle for printing with 0.56 layer height and spiral vase mode. I was wondering if anyone had any experience and suggestions for the correct settings for printing PLA.

Starting with the 0.40mm Standard @BBL H2D 0.8 nozzle preset, what settings should I change besides changing layer height to 0.56mm? Also is there anything I should change from my 0.4mm filament settings? I was planning to just copy them over.

So no one uses a 0.8 nozzle with H2D?

It can already hit max flow rate with the .4 nozzle. Any larger and the printer just slows down. Really only great for vase mode or printers with better extruders and higher wattage nozzle heaters.

Yeah I was planning to use it only for vase mode. I wanted to get the maximum layer height I can get which seems to be 0.56mm

Nothing you really need to change. Just do a flow rate test to make sure you can get the most speed out of it while maintaining strength. Don’t run up to the limit of where problems occur, step down to 80% that to ensure strength. I would also run the test and print at a 5-10C hotter than what you run it on 0.4 nozzles.
I would also suggest calibrating the flow rate too.

Thanks. When you say step down to 80% do you mean towards under extrusion?

He’s talking about max flow rate. You will find it in the filament profile. There are 2 flow rate settings in there. Max flow rate sets the maximum that the printer can extrude and will look something like 25mm3/s. The other flow rate covers normal printing and is what you’re showing in that picture. It will look something like .97

One is your speed limit. The other is the extrusion factor.

I recently replaced the hotend of my ender 3 v3 se with a $10 aliexpress 60W heater, replacing what I believe is a stock 10W, under the pretense of “if i blow up the board, i dont care”. It heats up so fast and so aggro now that a cold pull lets go about soon as you hit “set”. Thanks for reminding me to go back and do that max flow test. I kinda have the same plan for one of my A1’s…

10w is pretty funny. Just had an led bulb on the tip lol
