I recently got my printer around July 22nd and had asked me, on the same day, to lubericate the y-axis. Fast-forward to today, and I have only 118, but for those 3 months it has never asked me to lube my z-axis. I was also wondering how often i should lubericate my printer too.
The machine should tell you after about 100 odd hours that it’s time to lubricate
Thank you!! I was really worried why I did not get a notification. Does the A1 also mention the user to lube the z-axis?
No it will just suggest the y but I normally do the others at the same time although I’m pretty sure they recommend every three months or so for the others.
i do add fresh grease to the z axis screw every time i lube the other two, should i remove the old nasty grease? i am afraid to leave residue of whatever cleaning utensil
You can use yarn or string and wrap it around one turn on the lead screw. Pull back and forth with a sawing motion and it will clean the lead screw really good. Pull up with tension when you do the saw motion and it’ll wrap around the lead screw and get into all the crevices going up then put tension downwards and you go down. I prefer the gear floss and it absorbs the old grease really well. Cleans the lead screw really fast and easy.
This is exactly what I use it’s great.
I purchased some of this after I saw a video on using it but in that the user was removing the top of the lead screw to be able to get the floss wrapped around it, I’m not going to all that trouble but I cannot get the floss around the screws so I end up just wiping the screws as best I can.
Are there instructions for lubing the z-axis?
The “Lead Screw” section on that page covers it with pictures. I highly recommend the gear floss for cleaning the Lead Screws mentioned by @MotoGP11991 (It can be tricky, but you can fish the gear floss around the screws without taking anything apart; it gets easier the more you do it) You only need to do the Z-Axis every 3 months.
Just found this for the A2L, it’s the same process:
