Should my printer be turned off?

No. Enameled wire is generally used in transformer coils and when used within their specified ratings will not get any where near getting hot enough to degrade the coating.

3d printers use switching power supplies instead of large transformers (like a microwave) to change the wall power you supply it to 24vdc. They have very little “enameled” wire in them. Sitting idle, printers have very little power draw. When powered on screens do have a limited life span but this is normally mitigated by powering down or turning off the screen via the firmware.

The debate on device on or off has been going on for decades. AFAIK, there isn’t a consensus that can be applied to all situations. I leave it on normally, but may turn it off if it’s not going to be used for the next few days, unless I forget :slight_smile: . If it’s wrong, I have been wrong on a lot of devices for a long time :slight_smile:

It also increases the energy bill…
