im printing this half sphere for part of a model and it turned out great printing from the bottom up but theres a seam that throws it off.
if i try a scarf the print gets mess as you can see in the 2nd pic.
if i try to print it on its side to hide the seem on the underside of the half sphere the print is gets messy at the base as you can see in the third pic.
what settings should i be using
silk filaments are hard to control extrusion and they are heat sensitive. This means unless you fine-tune your scarf seam settings with lots of care and efforts, you won’t get a good result easily.
I’m not a fan of trying to use scarf seams on silk, especially the coextrusion stuff. “2 passes of flow that together equal 100% of the height” works well with simple filaments, but I find that silk coextrusion just looks like a big smear. something something elastomers etc
Your pic doesnt look like what I experienced though, it looks really struggling to control the flow but its not obvious whats acting weird. Perhaps too hot? Try to craft a smaller test object.
That’s cooling/speed issue. You are probably going too fast and/or too hot on way too steep overhangs, which then curl, cause nozzle drag and manifest overextrussion . Try to print with with the flat side of the hemisphere down, if it’s hollow use supports, and slow down 25%
I did and the results were great but it had that seam as you can see in the 1st pic. I want to print it with a scarf or print it on the edge to hide the seam.
